Hello everybody. I took a 4 month break there from posting. I Just had a thought that the you all may be able to help me with.

I Know i''m allergic to the nickle in the gold jewelry. I get all rashy and green. Sterling silver turns my fingers green and makes my skin peel. I wonder, if because of my skin sensitivity - is it possible that I could be allergic to titanium as well? I''ve never worn titanium before.

I know that I can wear platinum, but that''s a little too expensive right now. We''ll get the actual wedding bands we want when we renew our vows (i.e. when we can afford it)

Any stories or input is greatly appreciated.

Hi Tida, you shouldn''t have a reaction from titanium or zirconium. They are very inert, and both metals are used in body implants for that reason. I''ve had several clients that couldn''t wear gold that have no problem with their titanium rings.

No, you shouldn't be. Nothing in ti that would cause the same allergic reaction. Nickel is often present in sterling silver too from what I understand.

You should also be able to find nickel-free gold (and silver) jewelry. In the EU, all WG is supposed to be nickel-free since 2005; palladium-based alloys are more expensive but hypoallergenic and can be very white. I think the main issue is knowing for sure if it''s only nickel that you are sensitive to, or if there''s other metals like copper and cobalt (which can also be used in alloys).

Titanium, zirconium and silicon carbide should be entirely safe.

You could also try palladium, it''s supposed to be hypoallerengic as well. It''s in the same family of metals as platinum, but is about the same price as gold.

Hi!
I am in a similar situation. I've never been able to wear silver, or costume jewelry (that was a pain during high school). And in the last few months I had to quit wearing yellow gold after developing black fingers, blisters and peeling. I had a white gold, rhodium plated ring though that I didn't react to at all, so we decided to go with 18k white gold to replace my wedding set and hope the rhodium plating protects me. I've had my new wedding set for almost 3 months now, and so far, so good,no rashes etc. And I do ok with titanium and stainless steel (watch). If I develop problems with the white gold, our next step is palladium, since platinum is just completely out of our price range

Another interesting thing. I have had on my mom's old rose gold antique ring (18k) for about 48 hours, and so far, no reaction.

I wonder if they don't use nickel in the rose gold. Regardless, I am glad I can wear it

I had bookmaked this website HERE that has lots of palladium rings at very reasonable prices. All their wedding and engagement rings come in palladium too. I wish I had found it before we ordered the 18k WG rings. I would have tried Palladium instead. Not a single jeweler in our area carries palladium, and we only found two in the Twin Cities that do. Hope this helps

Hey flowerladytoo - I''m in MN too! I know that James Allen (www.jamesallen.com) can also make any of their settings/bands in palladium as well. Just thought you might want that info for future reference!

Some white gold is nickle free. The EU recently passed laws against it and there are also several places in the US to get it if you prefer white gold to either plad or ti.
