Sorry for barging in here (I hope you don''t find this post inappropriate for this forum), but I''m driving myself nuts!

Before he proposes, my boyfriend has given me free reign to design my own ring.
I know I should be thankful, but I''m going crazy with all the decisions to be made!
I''m so wishy-washy right now, and my boyfriend is no help, so maybe someone out there can chime in?

I''m looking at a sapphire from Richard Homer, and trying to find the "perfect" setting for it.

I contacted Whiteflash about their Antique 3-stone setting, but their Design Team said they wouldn''t be able to set the sapphire.

So now, I''m considering a custom setting: perhaps pear diamond sidestones

or a halo

HELP!!
I figure I better make up my mind before I keep bugging Jamie at Whiteflash!

I did this too - It took me about 4 months to decide what I wanted - after all you wear it for the rest of your life!

The sapphire is beautiful.

For settings - go and try lots of different styles on. 3 stone rings like a RB with pear sides look amazing on my mother and my FSIL but awful on me, whereas the splitshank I went with really suits my hand.

Ooh, thanks for the suggestion about trying them on in person!
With all the online shopping, I had kind of forgotten about B&M jewelry stores altogether!
(Not to mention that they kind of intimidate me.)

Wonder if I can convince the boyfriend to come along...
or if I''m better off going with a friend!

I''d go with a friend - the sales people are much less pushy.

You just say your BF hates shopping and so he wants you to go and see things on your own first so he doesn''t have to spend hours!

Haha, too funny!

I mentioned it to my boyfriend, and I think he might actually want to go with me

(Says it''s to make up for all the soccer games he drags me to...)
He said he''ll just tell the salesperson that he''s my brother (nevermind that we''re obviously different ethnicities)

I can''t wait to get my grubby little hands on some jewelry this weekend!!

That''s great that he''s willing to go with you! Shopping for jewellery together is actually kinda fun!
Hope you find your ''perfect'' setting!!

Yaaay!

I remember being in your shoes. I was all "YELLOW SAPPHIRE!" and then "ETERNITY BAND!" and then "DANBURITE PLACEHOLDER RING!" and somehow I ended up with the Bulgari Beast (which, by the way, I love even more every single day and which I am getting compliemtns on daily too... I LOVE IT!)

And looking at stuff together IS fun. For one thing, you can teach him about it so he enjoys and appreciates it more. After all, he has to look at it every day for the rest of your lives too. For us, after endless web surfing together and a trip to some B&M''s, my guy now loves my diamodn almost as much as I do, and understands what makes the ring he chose so special. He loves to use my loupe and stares at the rock all the time and goes "WOW!" when it''s being particularly fiery.

So, shopping together can definitely be fun, and increase HIS enjoyment of the purchase too.

Aww, that''s pretty cute. Be thankful he''s interested and wants to be a part of it! I tried with my boyfriend and he just kind of stared blankly at everything and said it all basically looked the same to him.

Thanks so much for the advice and kind words, everyone!
I''m back from shopping! (Morgan''s Jewelry in Palos Verdes and Torrance - quite nice!)

I found out I''m almost a whole ring size smaller than I thought. (Still in disbelief.)
Then I figured out that halos don''t look so great on me. (Good - I can cross one style off the list.)
So I''ve decided to ask Whiteflash about their round 3-stone W-prong setting.
(The pear side stones weren''t so good on me either.)

Having the boyfriend along turned out to be great!
Whenever the salesperson started to get too pushy, he distracted him by asking about different types of gemstones and telling him all about the fascinating diamond article in National Geographic.

Now I just have to try and be patient while I wait to hear back from Whiteflash!
Ahk!
