Sunday we left for NYC where we checked in to the hotel first thing. Then we stopped at Starbucks for a snack and went on to the Gershwin Theater where we were set to see Wicked. We arrived early, so we looked at the Wicked themed decorating they''d done, bought some souveneirs, and looked at the program while we waited. Then we got to take our seats and the show started...it was INCREDIBLE. Absolutely AMAZING. A couple of the songs brought tears to my eyes, it was that good. We got the soundtrack too, so we were listening to it on the ride back from the train station today.
Then we went back to the hotel to rest a little before dinner, we were supposed to eat at 9:45 because that was the earliest time we could get a reservation after six. C called to confirm after we got back and to ask if they had an earlier reservation available, and they did, 8:30. So we took the subway out to Brooklyn to Peter Luger''s. It''s the #1 steak house in NYC for the past 20+ years in a row according to zagat''s. It was what I promised C for his birthday while he was in Iraq. The food was excellent, the steak sauce was terrific, and they had chocolate mousse cake and brought out a big bowl of whipped cream and just set it in the middle of the table for our desserts. It was awesome, though expensive, and they only take cash, no cards other than their credit card. But I was prepared, lol.
Then we went back to the hotel and decided to see the da vinci code, which was a bad idea since it was 10:25 at night and I was TIRED. So we made it through the movie and then finally went to bed. The next day we slept in a bit, then went to grab some lunch before heading to Grand Central to go to the botanical garden. Except we were also supposed to go to the Met and walk through Central Park and such (and C has a dinner reservation early at a VERY nice place that he doesn''t want to miss...and that''s where I''m thinking he''s going to propose because he''s been keeping the locat1on completely secret), so we decided to go to the Met and do the botanical garden the next day. So we go to the Met, and discover that the Met isn''t open on Mondays...ooops. So we head to central park. We walk around a bit and I see some stairs that lead down to a pretty fountain next to a pond. So we go down there and check out the fountain, watch them do some pictures for a wedding. We walk onto a path away from the fountain and come to the Bow Bridge. We stop and read the sign about it and walk up onto the bridge.
C wants to stop and look out over the pond so we do. See a couple of egrets and a bunch of rowboaters. C and I hold hands and the hand I wasn''t already holding is FREEZING. Like ice. And it was a pretty nice day. I thought that was weird...but that he was just nervous about dinner. Then he scratches his leg and doesn''t give me back his right hand, which I think is odd, but ok. Then he starts talking about how much he loves me, and that he wants to spend the rest of his life with me, and then he asked me to marry him! And holds up the ring...I said yes, and he took it out of the box and slid it onto my finger. Then we watched the boaters for a while longer before heading back to get ready for dinner.
Dinner is still a secret so we get ready to go and I''m ready right on time for a change take a taxi to a random street lined with carriages. Then C tells me to pick a horse. I say "are you going to buy it for me?!?!" He says no, to ride in. So I pick one that looks like Jake and it takes us to Tavern on the Green where we have a delicious meal and we get free champagne since the waiter figures out that we just got engaged and there are little pink stags leaping out of the glasses as well (plastic ones). I saved them...as well as the cork...and the matches I picked up in the ladies room.
We took a cab back to the hotel and drank a bottle of wine we''d bought at grand central and put on ice before leaving for dinner. We ordered The Family Stone through pay per view (which wasn''t funny at all) and then we went to sleep.
Today we woke up at a more reasonable time and went back to the Met, saw my painting (The Horse Fair, that was where C was originally going to propose...but since the Met was closed and he didn''t want to wait he went with his back up plan.) Then we went back to Central Park and rented one of the boats we were watching yesterday and taking lots of pictures since we had no camera the day it actually happened.
Then we took a cab back to the hotel where we''d checked out but were keeping our bags in the luggage room so that we could still wander about the city. So then we leave for NJ, take the train back and then the car ride back to our apt complex. And on the way we listened to the soundtrack to Wicked. And I practiced taking pictures of the ring...see attached, hee hee.
We''re meeting up with his parents and my parents in PA this weekend so that the two sets of parents can meet before we go to Korea.
So far we''re planning on 09-08-07 for the date of the ceremony/reception. Though we might still have to do a paper wedding while in Korea so that the AF will send us to the same place.
