I'm so excited! I'm finally engaged. My boyfriend...I mean fiance proposed to me with this beautiful ring. Everyone has been giving me compliments but I can't answer their questions about the cut. People have asked me if it's a round brilliant, OEC, miner, transitional, or even a cushion cut. This was his grandmother's diamond and it dates back to at least the late 50's, early 60's.

Please let me know your expert opinions.

Your ring is gorgeous! It is hard to tell from the pictures. It does look like larger facets. If she perhaps got an old diamond herself, it could be an OEC or transitional. But in the 50's and 60's, modern round brilliants were being produced.

GORGEOUS setting choice!!! Can you get a closer macro shot of just the diamond? Looks beautiful on you - please give us the stone stats, if you have them!

Congratulations on your new engagement!

How do you take a Macro photo?

It is not certified, but the appraisal said

F color
Vs2 clarity
1.72 carats

Are these better pictures? I took them outside.

Looks like a transitional round brilliant or early modern round brilliant to me :)) Larger table, flatter crown, shorter lower halves (chunky). Probably cut post 1920 pre 1950... but that's a really rough guess! Can you post a profile shot?

Oooh! Looks like a tranny! Gorgeous! How lucky he had that stone! :appl:

Wow, that's gorgeous! Congratulations on your engagement and your beautiful bling!

Maybe a transitional?

Its beautiful, congratulations. If you want to find out more, take it to an appraiser, you should have one for insurance purposes.

It's a beautiful ring!!! Congratulations on the engagement! Please keep us updated if/when you take it to an appraiser :)

Oh, it does look like a transitional! You lucky girl to have such a beautiful heirloom stone!

Thank you everyone for your comments and compliments!

It has been appraised by the jewler that made th setting, but there just was not much info. It said that is was a round brillant, but it doesnt look like any round brillant I have seen in real life, and another jewler said it was an older diamond. Also, I had questions from others about the cut.

Dreamer d- once I can get a good profile shot I will post, and if I take it for another appraisal I will post the stats.

Congratulations on your engagement. Lucky lady - looks like a transitional cut.

So I got more information regarding the diamond. Some of the paperwork from the jewler said it has an open culet. It did not indicate size. Said diameter 7.9 8.0, and depth 4.5 . I was nervous to post this as it would mean the stone is shallow? I think it sparkles alot!!! Also, was does the open culet mean, is that typical of transitionals? Thanks!

I feel bad for asking more questions....no one in real life understands why I would want to know or care!
