Hi all,
I''m looking for a simple gold colored sheath dress that hits at the knee (or slightly above/below), and I don''t want the fabric to be too shiny. I found one at aria bridesmaids for $195 that I loved, but I really want to keep the dresses below $130 since all of my bridesmaids either students or have low incomes. I found another possible one at barijay that was $110 that is my backup dress. I like most things about it except that the waist has gathering, which might now be flattering for a couple of my bridesmaids.

I guess my biggest concern and what I''m being picky about is the color. I want it to be gold, not yellow, not champagne, not peach, not bronze, nor taupe...I wonder why gold is so hard to find?!

Thanks so much for your help!

here is the picture of my backup dress. If only it was a more simple sheath style without the shirring around the waist...

hi there,
i like your backup dress, the color is great- and just curious, have you had any of the girls try it on?
you may be surprised- i think the rouching (sp?) can actually be flattering depending on how defined the waist is.

also, is your concern that it wouldn''t be flattering due to the waistline? if so i would also caution against a sheath style- i''m a curvy girl and a lot of sheath wedding gowns i tried on were not the most flattering and/or comfortable as they can be a bit tight around the hips (esp. for sitting) an a-line or slim a-line could work much better.

another thought, if you really like the aria, why don''t you ask your girls. if i really loved a dress i wouldn''t mind spending the extra $ versus something i didn''t like as much- especially if there was plenty of time to order, and if it was something i would wear again.

Oh, true gold without shiney? That''s hard. Here are a few options:

Silk wrap dress
Longer sleeved wrap dress

Or Coco Myles does custom bridesmaids dresses, you pair a top style with a skirt style to get the dress you want. Look under charmuse to find a true gold. The Sweatheart neckline and tea length straight skirt in gold charmeuse is $125. The company is pretty new, so if you want another length you could probably call/email them to get exactly what you want.

Good luck!

I agree with you about the a-line waist, that would be fine too. I''m not against the skirt having an a-line instead of being really slim. However, I rather not have rouching at the waist. I''m actually not too worried about curvy girls, because really a couple of my bridesmaids are really really skinny and don''t have any shape or breasts. I thought a simple sheath style would look better on them, but an a-line is fine.

I did ask about the aria...and I could tell before a couple of them answered that they really can''t afford $195...they really don''t have much money. They are graduate students living on a tiny stipdent or are starting out in new jobs. Bummer, but I don''t blame them. When I was a bridesmaid for one of their weddings, the dresses were $100, and at the time I thought they were expensive, but now I know better LOL!

Is this gold enough?

I like those wrap dresses you showed me! They could definitely be a possibility. It''s hard to tell the color in the photographs though, but they do look gold even though they are not named gold.

As far as shine goes, a little is fine. I just wanted to avoid metallic hues. These silk fabrics that you linked are great, I like them a lot. I will have to consider asking about those wrap dresses to see the color better.

Why do you think the rouching won''t look flattering on the skinny girls? Rouching is actually really flattering because it hides things for curvy girls and creates curves for the skinny girls.

I really like your back up dress because it looks very classy and more structured than an a-line dress.
