I absolutely LOVE pear shapes for necklaces, and am looking to have my own made up, and am currently looking for something unique looking around 2ct in size that would fit nicely with a chain that hit just below my collarbones...(that u-ey bone part of the collar bones in the middle). $200 would prob be my max, so that eliminates sapphires and tanzanite, 2 of my favs, but I''m looking for something different as well...

an example of what I''m looking at is attached, which is 3ct for about 200.00...I like the red, but am lookign for something a bit lighter, blue or orange....I dunno. I have all the time in the world so I''m just looking for ideas

How about spessertite (mandarin) garnet, or blue zircon?

The fun way, might just be to start with shape & budget and look any kind of material that comes at hand. Once fancy color sapphire and unusual garnets come into the list, there''s no telling what subtle shade of color or shape might come up. And there is allot more out there anyway.

Sunstone and mexican opal come to mind for orange. And would a briolette work?

It is quite crazy what search engines can do - for example, a list of pears of all types and colors lined up turned out these:

just in case hot pink is more interesting than red.

If you have high hopes for a brilliant drop, golden zircon would be my pic close to your color choices...

I definitely like the unusual fan shape of the zircon Widget posted! Set tip down into a pendant would make a very ncie piece ...

Even if you don''t have a deadline... I hope to see your pendant done and put to proper use soon enough

Speaking of Sunstone...

....this is one flatering picture for sure, but the real thing is nice and worth a look, if the color is something you would like.

wow! Thank you all for the input!! i definately have something to chew on...this may be a long time in coming (I''m not allowed to buy anything for myself, even the new citizens jeans i''ve been eyeing haha until after my xmas shopping is done), but I will post what I get as soon as I do.

I may hold out for a blue/violet sapphire--that''s my all time fav and if I wait a few months I''ll be able to afford it without sacrificing
