I have watched all the gemstone shows on Discovery+ and I'm following pretty much every YouTuber and TikToker who talks about gemstones, but I need more! Any recommendations?

I can highly recommend Gem Hunt and Outback Opal Hunters on Discovery+ but Game of Stones is definitely on fake side of reality tv but still entertaining.

Vlad Yavorskyy is quite the character... have you ever checked out his YT channel? He doesn't post very often though, unfortunately.

If you feel your knowledge level is plateauing, try the Richard Hughes books.

Most of the online content I have seen is thinly-disguised informercials, whether they disclose or not.

I follow the adventures of Vincent Pardieu on FB.

i’ve started watching videos by Lisbon-based gemologist Rui Galopim de Carvalho, just to get a different perspective. This is his video on jade.
One of my old favs is Patrick Voillot.
His videos are a bit like travelogues. This one about colored diamonds of Borneo is fascinating

Wow! I think that would be distracting me while I was driving!! LOL

Totally agree, look for books, tons of real content going back decades

Instagram is now my favorite place to gem browse and learn. Short videos, but tons of them.

Interesting! I have visited his website many times before and fantasized about owning one of his spectacular cobalt blue spinel pieces. I didn't even know he had a YT. I will definitely check it out. Thanks!

Agreed, same with TikTok. I will browse the hashtags and just search for new gem content but I find a lot of pretty rocks but nobody giving details or the story behind the stones, which is why I like creators like Avi the Gem Guy, corgems, and gemstones.

Definitely true! I will search my local library, and if not check Amazon and ebay. Any Hughes books you recommend to start with?

Ruby and Sapphire :)

Ruby & Sapphire: a Gemologist's Guide. It will ship straight from Bangkok and it is not a bargain. But there is nothing like it. It is the "new" edition of his classic and long-out-of-print monograph that was like $800, used. Ruby & Sapphire: a Collector's Guide is a lovely picture-book companion (and was released first) but is much shorter and lacks the technical details. I'm sure his Jade one is great, too, but I have not seen it.
