Ive been dating this woman for about a year and a half and I am so nervous. I am ready to ask her the big question. Ive been pulling my hair out trying to find the right ring.. She likes round cut with a silver colored band. Ive only got about 4 grand to spend and I want to get her the best ring I can get. Ive read so much in these forums and read so much about diamonds but I still get lost while looking. What can I do to make this go smoother. I need some help. HELP PLEASE.

OOPS wrong forum..

Sevn, I''ll look for your other thread, but I think you are going to have a LOT of options!!

First of all, congratulations on your decision to pop the big question! Since you have $4K to spend on the entire ring, I’d stay away from the designer settings or custom settings that coast anywhere from $1K-$5K WITHOUT the centerstone. I’d put most of it in a nice diamond in a simple white gold tiffany-style setting (some jewelers throw this in for free when you purchase the centerstone from them. Once you get the most bang for your buck on the centerstone, she can always get the setting of her dreams when finances allow it. This being said, a $3500-$4000 budget on the stone can get you very close to 1 carat depending on your preference for the 5 C’s (Cut, Color, Clarity, Carat weight, Cost).

A friend of mine recently purchased a 0.81ct F/SI2 (eyeclean) GIA (vg/ex) for only $3100 online. Since her finger size was only 4.5, the nearly one carat stone looked way bigger than one carat on her, it was also dazzling white. If you or your girl are not too color sensitive, you could probably go with an H/I color, and a get bigger or better clarity stone. Definitely spend some time learning about the importance of cut, and then decide whether how the other 4 C’s can be manipulated to suit your budget. Good luck!

Hi and welcome to Pricescope! I''m glad you came here for input. Buying a diamond can be a scary thing. Buying educated is the key. You have enough to worry about when you actually pop the question, hopefully buying the diamond will be a fun and enjoyable experience for you.

Read the tutorials. Get comfortable with the 4, sometimes 5 Cs like Jasonsmom said. I agree that a simple whitegold setting will allow you more to spend on your stone. That is a nice budget and will surely get you a fine stone.

Remember these words: CUT IS KING.

Once you read up on cut we can actually start helping you with the search for some nice stones in your price range. Good luck and keep us posted. Thanks for letting us be a part of your search.
