Well actually two. I bought this stone but its pink most of the time. I don't know much about them but I really like the color. Just wondering if this is normal? The other question is I noticed some scratches on the stone but was told it was new. I already contacted the seller and returning it isn't a problem but I'm wondering about polishing it. I'm not sure how that works does it sharpen the facets at all. There is an inclusion on the bottom of one corner. Can you polish a stone with one? I attached a photo. Just wondering if this stone can be fixed or just give up on it. It's a little over a carat.

In an Imperial Topaz, the most sought after/valuable colour is pink - so on that score, you've got a great stone.

Scratches are not an indication of new or old. Some stones can be scratched just from sitting in a gem box! The scratches could actually be inclusions (rather than scratches). Can you see them with your naked eye or is it only when you use a loupe? If they are tiny and don't annoy you then leave well alone. If they annoy you then you could possibly have them polished out (IF they're scratches).

You asked in general if it's possible to repolish a gem with an inclusion - well the answer is yes/no! It really depends on the inclusion, what it is and where it is in relation to the area you want polishing.

Typically coloured gemstones have unique flaws - totally flawless gems are in the minority and it's not really expected with most gemstones (depending on the variety) but of course it's liked!!!!

So, anything is potentially possible. I guess what I would ask is do you love the stone or is it just an "okay I like it" one? I never consider working on a stone to improve it unless I love it because it could be money well spent elsewhere. If you love it then it may be worth exploring polishing IF you really can't stand the scratches.

Thanks LD! I do love the color and you can only see the inclusion and the scratches with a loupe. I was torn with returning it because the seller stated it as new and I thought it may have been used. So thank you for giving me another point of view, as far as the scratches go. You have definitely given me something to think about. I'll hold on to it through the weekend, since I have 7 days to return it.
