I had a bit of a rough journey (in a first world problem sort of way) with choosing a center stone for my wedding ring, but I am so happy to have stuck to my guns when I decided that I only deserved the best for my budget. I turned down the rather lousy performers offered to me locally and decided I could do way better by shopping online on my own. Big thanks for all the help received at Rocky Talk, straight to me and by reading all the other topics available on related topics, I just love absorbing all the information you so gracefully share with us newbies.
((Just a quick explanation again for anyone who might be wondering why I've bought a half carat for a wedding ring. Here in Scandinavia the traditions concerning rings are somewhat different. The engagement usually takes place without any rings and afterwards the couple chooses their rings together - traditionally both get a matching band with no fancy stuff - white and yellow gold are usually the only options available. The fancy only takes place with the woman's wedding ring, which has one or several small diamonds. The size of them is usually no more than .30ct at max if it is a solitaire. The color grades are quite strictly in the F-H range and clarity almost always VS (though mall stores offer mainly SI's). The cut options are mainly rb and princess. Cushions, radiants and such are known only by the most underground jewelers ))
I started by searching for a 30 pointer modern cushion, but ended up drooling over AVC's and then pretty quickly understood what I really loved were the AVRs with their lovely feminine flower patterning. The ordering process with the very helpful and patient David at GOG was really easy. All my questions and concerns were handled quickly and in a super friendly and professional manner - something that I sadly haven't really experienced at jewelry stores before. The diamond arrived about 2 weeks ago, but I didn't get to posting until now.
I am actually missing my 0.52ct G VS2 AVR now that I finally took it to be set. The setting is going to platinum with fishtail prongs and half eternity side stones on a thin 2mm band.
