I am in desperate need of opinoins and thoughts on this topic..... My FI and I are planning to elope in Hawaii in May but I wanted to have a small get-together with family and friends when we got back, to celebrate and we could show them the pictures of our ceremony. Is it uncommon to have a wedding brunch? We are on a limited budget so I figured that would be the best option for us. Also, what is normally served? Thanks!!

I was considering having a brunch for my reception but they have time limits of between 10 and 2 which was too early for us and they, from what I''ve found, serve breakfast food.

So we decided to have a lunch reception. We found a nice place that will serve lunches that you would find on any dinner menu. The prices are 25% - 50% off the dinner menu. The only negative that we have found while searching is that most places want you to eat before 2 and have the reception over at 4. However, we are doing our wedding on a Sunday so we have a little more leway with timing.

If you are having a small type thing, you should cinsider just taking everyone to a nice restaurant. Call ahead and make reservations...maybe they could also set up a screen so you could show your pictures as a slide show.

I think that your family would love that idea. We plan on doing it with ours the next day at my fiance's house. We'll have some food, open some presents, and have a good time enjoying each other's company since some of them will have traveled across the country to see us. Most of my friends have done it and it was a good time.

ETA: As for what is served, it's up to you. I've had friends order the best fried chicken in town with lots of side dishes. I've had friends who had cookouts. I've had friends who had pot lucks. I've had friends that cooked all the food themselves. I don't think it's something that MUST be catered or anything, especially if you're on a limited budget.

Thanks ladies for your ideas! It is going to be a small affair (20 ppl max) so we may just go out to lunch. Caribou, that''s a really great idea about having the screen so we can show off our pictures, thanks!!

Yeah, that sounds perfect! You could also try to find a place that will let you reserve your own entire room so it''s a little more special. Ooh, or if it''s going to be nice weather, if you can reserve the restaurant''s garden area?? In any case, it sounds like it''ll be great!
