Dying to share this story with PS.. my mother in law to be purchase lots of jewellery (diamond especially) and talk like a diamond expert.. commented that the 2.34 idealcut D SI1 i bought my fiance is too small.. and keep on asking me how much I paid for the diamond thinking I am a fool and surely have overpaid.. unlike her who would have got a bargain.

I got a cheap 2carat CZ set in a proper tiffany setting thinking of giving it to my love so she can wear that when we go travel.. i dont dare to give it to her thinking that my good intention may be misinterpreted.. anyway I dropped the CZ in the wash as I was leaving the country !!!

No one knows where the ring is from or who it belongs to.. no one suspect that it was from me cause I left a good 1 week before they found the ring in the wash.. and the thing is that despite the money these people spend on diamond.. they cannot tell that this is not a diamond. My mum in law is getting this CZ reset in a setting which she can wear.. my fiance don''t suspect a thing nor I think I should let her in just in case i get into trouble..

I just enjoy sniggering whenever my mum in law to be talk about her find. And I can''t wait till she shows it off to her Mahjong playing friends.

ROFL!!
Thanks I got a full 5 min laugh out of that one.
You rock!

Uh, so she just kept a "diamond" or so she thinks that she found? Did she try to find out who it belonged to or just keep it? If she just claimed it, she deserves what she gets.

This is bizarre. What are the odds of a diamond ring magically appearing in a load of freshly washed laundry? I cannot imagine someone just running off and having the CZ set w/out further investigation.

Beyond the fact that your MIL isn't as knowledgable as she claims, I'd think she's proven herself to be very dishonest.

a 2.34 ct is too small

your MIL has a problem then.

chances are,her Mahjong playing friends probably couldn''t tell the difference between a CZ and a real diamond.

I guess you''ll have the last laugh on this one, too funny!!! Oh and how dare she say 2.34 is too small.

she did ask everyone in the family that is likely to lose a diamond ring whether it belongs to them.. hence she is not dishonest i think.. someone broke into one of their rental property few months ago.. cleaned up the kitchen and left a guy''s ring with some stone on it.. (not diamond).. weird and scary i know but they didn''t seem to think much of it.

They were joking around.. maybe the person broke in and left the matching ring??

Thanks Kaleigh for the moral support.. I want to give my fiance something beautiful and that comment by my MIL is really hurtful because I put in so much effort into buying the ring. I am still finding a permanent setting for the diamond so the quest for me is not quiet over yet.

Unfortunately my fiance and I are living on the opposite end of the world currently..again cause the in law''s disapproval of her moving over with me. Not till we get married..but we didn''t get their blessing because they don''t find me financially secure enough yet.. Want me to move to SF where they are from where they can keep an eye on me. Anyhow... doing the best I can here and hopefully once I get my new apartment in a month I can bring her over to live with me.

you can afford to buy your fiance a 2.34 D SI1 stone and your MIL thinks you''re not financially secure?

Uh, I don''t know. Making a mockery of one''s future MIL doesn''t make this person much better! JMO

dixxin,
Hang in there. Sounds like your doing a pretty good job of keeping the peace with your soon to be MIL. I think the stone sounds amazing and can't wait to see what setting you choose!!

Dixxin - just wanted you to know I empathise with you. I live very far away from my boyfriend (he is in America, I am in Australia - I am moving there at the end of this year though, thank god) and it is not fun! But if she''s the one it will all be worth it in the end, despite the little hiccups along the way (distance, MIL!) I wish you all the best and hope you get a great reunion soon!

Remember - you''re marrying the girl, not her mother (thank god!) so as long as she''s happy try not to let others get to you too much ...

I am sorry that you think I am " as bad" JMO. Actually I am not bad at all.

Thank God my inlaw isn''t that nutty. She''s actually pretty cool. I wish you luck man.
