I plan on buying an antique diamond for my engagement ring and some of the stones I’ve seen so far have chipped girdles, as confirmed by their GIA reports. Will I have a difficult time insuring my engagement ring? Could this result in higher premiums? Apologies if this has all been discussed already. Would also appreciate any suggestions for insuring engagement rings, particularly antique ones!

You might.
Insurers, in general, don't care for the word 'chip'. To them that means pre-existing damage. To GIA it's a grading characteristic. Your chances of trouble go down if you use one of the specialty jewelry companies but even then it can be a problem. The bright side is that it won't raise your prices. It won't affect your premiums at all. The downside is that they wont cover you at all if they have a problem with it.

I can not speak to insuring an antique stone but we have lots of threads on insurance. I'll post a few here so you
can have a look.

You can do a search on "insurance" using the Pricescope search function or go outside of PS and
google using pricescope.com.

A lot of people use Jewelers Mutual or use a rider with their personal insurance (home insurance). I use USAA.
I have had to make a claim and it was a tad painful. Seems like that is the norm unfortunately. :(

Jewelers Mutual has covered my antique stone (mine cut) for years. I don't have any special policy restrictions. The diamond is a VS2 with a GIA report within a year or two before insuring.
