Hello to one and all. I thought I would take a moment to introduce myself and just give my thought and impressions of this crazy business we call diamond buying.
I have been in the jewelry business in Nebraska for over 6 years. working for a locally owned mom and pop shop that recently celebrated its 100th year in business. In that time I have had the great pleasure of helping thousands of engagement couples and frazzled husbands find just the right jewelry piece to celebrate their special occasion.
I am glad to see a site that is so interested in promoting consumer awareness and education. Although this site seems a little bit "right-brained" to me, it is packed full of some very good info that if you use it wisely (and some of it with a HUGE grain of salt
), can really help you through the diamond buying process.
What it all boils down to people is: go with who you trust. If buying a diamond at Wal-Mart is your thing, go for it! If you want to buy a diamond that you have never seen and only know the ''''specs''''. Why not? If you want to go through a locally owned independent and pay a little more, okay!
It is almost unfortunate that anyone who wants to can hang out a shingle and sell gemstones but you have to have a degree to write prescriptions for medicine and the like. The expertise and knowledge of a professional jeweler can really be priceless when it comes to spending several thou on a wad of glass-like material
. But now as always, we will be there for you through the good times weddings/anniversaries) and bad (I recently made a set of "remembrance rings" for a husband and wife who''''s son was killed in an auto accident).
So ask away, make you posts, do your research and above all stay happy!
