Is anyone planning on using an ipod for the reception music? Just wondering . . .

I''m thinking about it actually. I''m big on music and just have to pick out every single song that''s going to be played. I don''t really want to leave anything up to a DJ.

We definately are. My MOH has one. I hadn''t even thought of that and she volunteered it after seeing a reception held at the hotel she works in. We''re giving her a list of all the music we want and then plugging it into the speakers my sister has:

In the small space where we''re having the the event, it will sound great with 15'' ceilings.

I did, and my best friend did as well. Worked out great!!

You think we''d have to rent speakers and stuff, though? We''ll probably need a mic for the toasts and stuff. I''m actually getting an IPOD in a couple weeks (my birthday) but I''m not sure how we''d make it loud enough.

I guess it depends on the size of your reception venue. You can probably rent a PA system and some loudspeakers fairly cheaply (compared to the cost of a DJ). Get them for a few extra days and play with them until you are satisfied with the result. You might need time to head to Radio Shack to get a cable or two to run the Ipod to the board.

I really like this idea, because I''m on a shoestring budget and I would like to save some $$. I also don''t want to bother with trying to find a DJ that fits our style and would not make the place into a rave/dance party. We own most of the music we want to hear, so this might be the perfect solution.

We are either using my friends iPod or burning some CD''s, it depends on what it easiest for the venue to do outside.

I thought about this too. But the DJ my venue uses is so cheap that we''re just doing that and making a playlist for him.

We are!

We were going to do this, but then Paul realized he had a friend who DJs for a living and would only charge us $250.00. If that falls through, the Ipod would be good!

I''m using my laptop, if we can get the sound to be decent. I work for a video and audio software company, so I''ll mix our own playlists so the songs go seamlessly into one another.

I heard you can''t do that on an iPod? But I heard macs do a great job of mixing...

Actually, you can make playlists on Ipod. I know I have one "Love Songs" list, and one "Quick Walkin''" list.. I think.. Anyone?

The one thing that the Ipod doesn''t do that you could do with a PC is crossfading from one track to the next. You can do this pretty easily with Winamp and maybe some other PC-based mp3 programs.

Yup, that''s what I was inquiring about..the crossfading...thanks!

I''ll be running playlists off an iBook (more control than the iPod, plus the cross-fading really helps). The room comes with a sound system as it''s usually used for business presentations and such.

I have a question for those of you who did this.

How much work was it to set things up? I''m hiring a DJ for our reception, but between the ceremony and the reception we were planning on having a casual mingling "reception" on the church lawn, with cookies and lemonade. It occurred to me that it might be fun to play music during that time, but I don''t want to spend a lot of time or money on it. Could I just rent a couple of speakers and plug them into my mp3 player, or is it more complicated than that?

Thanks, msflutter! That link is really helpful.

You can do a crossfade with your iPod, go to preferences and then go to playback it is the top bar. Very Easy.

I didn''t know where else to post this, but I saw it in a magazine and it killed me. It''s called an iSweat. A sweatshirt for your ipod. Self-explanatory, really.
