FI and I have just come back from a friend''s party and may have killed two birds with one stone.
Two of the things we haven''t tied down yet are a venue for our London Wedding Party which will be a week after our wedding for all our work colleagues and political friends who we aren''t inviting to the actual wedding; and music for our reception.
Music is not a huge thing for us like it is for many people - also at the last 3 or 4 weddings we have been to, most of our friends weren''t that into dancing, so we don''t really want to spend $$$$ on a band. My parents are very adamant about not just having an ipod - and they are paying...
We basically want something nice that people can dance to, that isn''t so loud that people can''t sit and chat, that appeals to all generations and that doesn''t cost the earth. Ideally, I''d like a mix of Sinatra, Gershwin, Elvis etc and easy to listen to 80''s, 90''s and more modern pop stuff.
The place our friend held her party would be perfect for us - it''s exactly next to Charing Cross Station and about 10 minutes walk from Parliament. Right size, atmosphere and hopefully in budget.
They had a pianist/singer there this evening who was amazing - I actually thought it was a sound system until I was leaving when I walked past the piano. The music he played and sang was exactly the sort of thing we both like.
My venue is a decent size - but has amazing acoustics, which makes a big band a problem as they will be VERY loud in the room. My wedding is also a very formal British one.
Do you think a singing pianist would be weird as the main music for people to dance to - or kind of nice?
I''m worried if it looks too ''hotel lobbyish'' if that makes sense.
I know I should just go with what I want, but I would like to get some honest opinions from all of you.
If you went to a formal wedding and the evening music was provided by a singing pianist, would you think it strange? (He won''t be playing during the meal).
