Is a solitaire too ''''engagementy'''' ?

Well, after some drama and a lot of learning, (on this board for the most part) I completed my diamond stud earring project last fall. They''re gorgeous...probably what a lot of you guys would call ''overkill'', but for me they''re perfect.

Throughout that process, I accrued a lot of knowledge, and now I''m on to the next project. I''ve been pretty set on an eternity ring from Signed Pieces, or a bezel set solitaire pendant. But.......

I''ve recently developed a growing obsession with emerald cuts. What I really want is a three stone ring with a center stone of .50-.65, flanked by two EC side stones of approx. .25-.30 each. Because EC proportions are all over the map, I''ve realized that''s going to be QUITE a project. Thus, I''m considering a solitaire for now... to be reset later as I find the side stones at
leisure.

So my question is.... is a solitaire RH ring funny looking? Would you look at a stranger wearing one on the RH as a probable formerly engaged person who kept the ring?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

When I think of a traditional e-ring I think of a stone in a Tiffany-style setting, so if you do get an EC and really don''t want it to look like an e-ring just avoid the Tiffany or Solstice type of ring. However, even if you opt for that I don''t think most ppl would think much of it as long as it''s on your right hand.

I agree, also if the setting has alot of impact, aka thicker than the typical solitaire e-ring settings...then I tend to think they command more attention, which for a RHR I think is key.

I personally love the EC''s set East West as a unique way to set a diamond for something other than an e-ring...maybe you can do that for your solitaire which definitely does not look engagement, and then do the 3 stone ring when you find the other stones later. Then it''s like 2 rings in one later down the road, just get a cheapie E/W setting for the first one and have the final one be the custom or more expensive one.

I like that idea Mara. I may play around with some custom ideas, as long as they don''t get too pricey. I do tend to like thinner bands, so I''ll have to go through the SMTR Folder for ideas. Is there a RHR Folder somewhere?

If a person has a diamond ring on the right hand and not the left hand, I think that person is probably divorced, but not ashamed to still wear the ring! And smart enough not to have given it back!

Just kidding! It sounds very pretty! If you wear a diamond ring on your left hand, it will look like an engagement ring, though. As long as you don''t mind people asking you about it!!

Oooh, what a cool project!

I don''t think an emerald cut solitaire RHR would be too "engagement-y." Perhaps you could get a more substantial band -- such as the Tiffany Lucida style. As it is lovely, even on the left hand ring finger it''s not too "engagement-y."

I think for every person I ask, I''ll get a different answer on this one. I have an engagement ring on my left hand, so I''d end up having both. I have broken an engagement in the past, so I think I''m just sensitive about it.

Truth is, I''ll have to start out with a solitaire anyway. Due to my ''need'' for a D-F color, and willingness to pay the premium for it, that will eat up my budget for awhile.

I''m still considering an eternity or band from Signed Pieces, and am trying to visualize how the various sizes look on the hand, (ring size 6). That would certainly be simpler, and they are gorgeous.
