A quick google points to: http://www.aweddinginbali.com/

You should look into this verrrrry carefully as Indonesia is a complicated place in terms of legal matters. E.g., according to this website, you CAN''T marry there legally until you have been married religiously with the appropriate certification. And a corollary caution: if you''re Jewish, you may have problems having to tell everyone and their official uncle that in order to get hitched. Not sure I''d be wanting to declare that widely in Indonesia. 95% that you''d be fine. But.

My only other tip would be, if you''ve never traveled to the other side of the earth before, give yourself loooots of time to get over the jetlag. Like, at least 5 days. It''s a killer, though much much worse going back to the US than going over there. (If you''re in the US).

thanks indygirl. i live in asia so bali is really a 2 hour plane ride away. we are getting the legal documentation sorted out in our country of citizenship before flying to bali for a purely religious ceremony (it will be sort of an "elopement" with just family and handful of close friends).

haha i never realised there was such a Jewish tradition but i''m glad i don''t have to do that.

Hi Elise,
It''s nothing to do with Jewish tradition, it''s the law in Indonesia that you must prove to them that you have been married by religious authorities. There is a great deal of anti-Semitism in Indonesia and so since you have to announce your religion in order to get married there, you have to announce to a lot of people that you''re Jewish in order to get married. That might be uncomfortable at best and dangerous at worst. It has nothing to do with Jewish tradition though. It''s just this requirement of Indonesian law. I was just giving you a ''heads up'' in case it applied to you, which apparently it doesn''t!

oops! i misunderstood your previous mail. thanks for the tips indy gal!
