to pee outside?

One of my best friends taught on of her cats to go to the bathroom outside, using the doggy door!! I think it is the coolest thing, and I was just wondering if this is something that a lot of owners teach their cats to do?

Ok... I thought of a better way to ask this....

What crazy things have you taught your pets to do, if any?

I have heard of people teaching their cat(s) to use the human potty. Imagine, no more messing with litter boxes!

Honestly, I''d be way too much of a wreck to ever let my kitties outside. Between cars and predators and mean people who do horrible things to animals...I''d rather deal with the litter box

I taught my cat to roll over for a treat. It makes me giggle every time.

We taught our dog Harley to blow his nose. He sneezes when he wants a treat. It''s ADORABLE.

We also say "watch em" when there is a deer in the yard and he sits perfectly still and snorts at them.

Tried to teach our cat Davidson tricks, but he''s too lazy....

I taught my cat to jump up and kiss me for a treat...I love it!

My two male cats used to pee in the toilet! I didn''t teach them. It was great! Then, all of a sudden they decided they prefered the litter box [usually

We TRIED to do this but actually, it was kind of messy. There''s something that is shaped like a potty...er, toilet, and it has perferated (sp?) rings that you put litter in. You train your cat to perch on the seat and go on the rings (you do put litter on the rings, just as you would add litter to a litter box). Evenutally you''re supposed to punch a ring out each week or so and THEN voila, the cat will be using only the toilet. It''s tedious and too hard to keep up, in my opinion. I hate dealing with litter and cleaning the box so often but there was no way I could invest the time it would have taken to potty train our cat. Now we have two cats and I can''t imagine trying to train 2 cats to use the toilet.

I actually found a GREAT litter that doesn''t create dust and it''s clean. It''s called S''Wheat Scoop. The litter itself doesn''t have any odor to it..it''s awesome. It''s a little pricey for cat litter but definitely worth it.

Aloros-- that''s so cute

Ang3199--- That is amazing!! How long did it take to teach him to sneeze? And did he just start snorting and deer on his own?

DiamanteBlu-- Do cats learn that just by watching their owners? Crazy?!?

Who knows? Maybe they are trying to mark it as their territory. LOL!

Years ago my mother was blaming my father for not flushing the toilet in the master bath. [He denied it, I''m sure.] Well, one day she walked in only to find her big fat black cat "using the facilities"!

LOL!! That reminds me of the movie "Meet the Fockers" when jynxie would go into the office toilet that would overflow the septic tank... hahaha!! Too cute!! I can just imagine now how crazy my dad would be, running around the house trying to figure out what the hell my mom is complaining about...

Hahaha. We would tell him "blow your nose" " blow your nose". I don''t know how he got the hang of it actually, it just kinda hit him I guess. I have to give my dad credit for it though. He''s the one who got him to be so consistent in doing it.

My FI is a big hunter (bear in the living room, deer and turkey on the wall, etc) and he got a deer feeder for the backyard and just started saying "watch em, watch em" and Har''s ears would perk up. I think the snorting is him trying to get a good smell of them.

What I would do without the pupster I dont know....hahah.

I don't think we had a litterbox for our cats when I was a kid. They went outside, but we didn't have a dog door (my mom had a story about a frog invasion in an old house) so they just told us when they needed to go out. My mom usually let them go out at night. She doesn't let her cats go out anymore, and the older one, who used to, still complains about the litter box, but the younger one is used to it. I guess it depends on where you live... there are some places where it's probably ok, but the vast majority of places aren't really safe for cats... it's not likely that they'll just run outside to go and then come back in when they're done, you know?

I haven't taught my cats to do anything special... but they sure have taught me a lot... like to get out of bed on a weekend morning to feed them, and to feed them AS SOON as I get home. And to give them a treat before bed. And to let them sleep on my feet. etc. I'M very well trained.
