Is it possible to get screwbacks for earrings in this day and age?

Hi everyone,

If I were to ask (insert the name of vendor x here) to do screbacks, do you think that would be possible?

TIA.

Yes, I don''t see why not.

Yes. It''s still possible to get them done. I recently got my diamond earrings changed to screw backs. As the backs are made specifically for your posts, make sure you order a couple of spares, just in case you lose one. I feel much happier wearing screwbacks as they are so much more secure.

The answer should be yes, but some vendors will try to talk you out of it. I called several PS vendors when I got my itty bitty studs, and I was a little turned off by how many times I was told I should do something else. I love my screwbacks, understand that they may need to be replaced as the threads loosen, and I read everything I could be before deciding to do it.

I don''t know about PS vendors but all of my local stores still push for screwbacks. when my hubby bought my studs years ago I wanted friction and they talked him into screwbacks. I hate them! I am going to have them reset soon b/c the back won''t stay on. I called the jeweler and told them I wanted the posts changed to friction and they tried to talk me out of it again. I still think screwbacks are pretty common.

Ditto mrssalvo--they are common. I can''t stand them--pita.

The studs I received for my 21st bday have screwbacks and I am almost 30 now and I haven''t had one problem with them. I''ve never had to replace them.

If I took them off every day, maybe I''d find them more annoying, but I leave them in 24-7 and just check them once in a while to tighten them up if they need it.

Screwbacks are still commonly made and offered by PS vendors. I know many prefer the friction backs though.

Yep, but I would not want them

We still do them when people ask.

I''m personally not a fan of them because they can be difficult to get on/off (inhibits motivation to clean them) and the threading can often wear over time. I''ve lost a screwback earring not once but twice, and after that I decided to go friction. Since I''ve had heavy friction backs, I''ve never lost one.

Strangely enough, my screwbacks are more secure than my friction backs. Almost all my earrings are screwbacks and they are fine. I''ve already lost 2 frictionbacks.

I would make sure that the screw backs are the higher grade (deep cut threads on a heavier post and that the backs are not just re-worked friction backs and they should fit perfectly on the threaded post. Also they should have some size to them so them can be easily handled...
