Is the same emerald? Looks different in person.

I purchased an emerald but when the stone arrived it looked different than the pics. The vendor has already agreed to take the stone back but didn't indicate that a different stone was sent on accident (I was hoping that would be the case). There is a surface level inclusion that is pretty bad, I actually thought there was some dirt or grime on the stones and tried to scrape it off! It's visible to the naked eye so the stone is a no go for me (trust me- I don't expect a clean emerald, just not something with visible inclusions in the center of the table). Am I crazy, is the stone that I was sent the same from pictures? I guess I'm asking in part because maybe I need to adjust my expectations of what emeralds in my price range will look like in person. :(

The vendor photos are particularly bad -- only one angle (straight face on) in all 3 photos, only one position (between fingers), and only one lighting environment. None of the vendor photos show the table clearly.

Your photos are all different angles, and in more than one lighting environment.

Yes, I do think the photos show the same stone.

When you look for gemstones online, go with vendors who provide several photos, all very clear, all in different lights, and all different angles. Make sure there is a good return policy, and, if an international purchase, make sure you are able to safely and economically able to ship back the item.

I agree with everyone else that the vendor's photos are so bad, it's difficult to tell. But one thing I will say is that the table looks quite a bit larger and square in your photos. I'm not sure if that's an optics thing or what. I'm also not seeing the large, dark window in your photos that is quite obvious in the vendor's photos. But who knows. Return it and avoid that seller in the future. Good luck!

ETA: Did you consider asking the seller right out if they may have "accidentally" sent a different stone? Not that I think it would have been a mistake...

It is not the same stone. Look at the table. Your pictures show a square table. The vendor's show an octagon table. Bad seller.

The far majority of octagon cuts have octagon tables.

Yes, I agree!
Compare the shape of the tables. They sent you a different stone.

It just doesn't look right to me either!! If I had to guess one way or the other, I'd say it's a different stone. I can't find one definitive similarity on both stones where I can say it's the same. Again though, not the greatest photos. But even the proportions look off!

Yes, the proportions of the vendors picture show a stone that is easily seen longer than it is wide. As yours pictures show a stone that is closer to being even in width and length.

yes, looking more carefully after reading @fredflintstone posts, of course he is correct -- these are two different stones -- omg -- which takes the transaction to an even more troubling level, outright fraud and misrepresentation. Depending on how you paid and how you want to approach the return, certainly the vendor should pay (or reimburse you) for all of your return shipping costs in addition to full refund of whatever you paid for the item. After you've received your refund, I hope you choose to share the vendor name, so other consumers are warned about the vendor's fraudulent business practices.

oh shoot, @fredflintstone is completely right. I wasn't looking carefully enough at the table shape.

I’d also be curious to know how the vendors listing is stated as to
‘This exact pictured stone is what you are buying’, or not.
If this is the case - then yes (x10) please state vendor name.

Glad you can use the return policy, OP

It's not really that important if it is or isn't the same stone. Neither of them is worth keeping! :eek-2: :lol-2:

Thank you everyone! My email to them stated that I thought a mistake had been made and the wrong stone was sent. I like to assume positive intent and know that mistake can happen. What a bummer!

Back to the drawing board. Anyone see any emeralds in the 5-6mm range lately????

The vendor lists specific stones. They each have origin, dimensions, weight, ect.

I do now recognize the vendors photos.
Hopefully it is just some random shipping mistake and you are made whole, @OECsareforLovers
Or maybe can and will they send you the correct stone? Would you ask if they have any others in your price range not listed on their website?

Please let us know how it all pans out in the end.

I will retract my statement, "Bad seller." Mistakes do happen. I know, I made a few myself shipping. I cast the first stone. I should not have.

But, let us know how things go.

I recognize the stone because I eyed it for some time. Clearly not what he sent you but at that price point you can hardly expect much better quality, except the HUGE cavity on the table

Just curious if you have any updates on how this was resolved for you, if you wish to share?

@Rfisher Looks like the same vendor…
