Is this 2.59 OMC too yellow?

I love the shape of this stone, but it looks to be a very warm, especially with those broad facets. I'm open to warmer stones but don't want one that presents yellow, especially given that this is an extremely old (deep) cut.

I asked for pics on a hand in natural light as a reference point.

Thoughts?

To <me> L colored stones are not “yellow” but more like a creamy off white or ivory. L is not that far down on the color scale. See the lab report where it says “tinted white” it will be like if you have a glass of water and you pour a little white wine into the water. The more you pour white wine into the water, the warmer the water looks. White wine is also not yellow, but just to give you a visual.

It isn't going to look yellow yellow. It just isn't going to be blindingly white. I have a L colored stone and it doesn't look yellow - just looks less colorless than the D colored loose stone I have.

Thanks, all! I’m also mindful that this isn’t a GIA cert so it could be warmer than stated. The fluor may have a neat effect on it, in any case.

THat is a really pretty stone!! THe facet pattern is gorgeous

Personally I find L colour old cut diamonds to present white, especially as they tend to face up whiter than the modern counterparts. The close-up photo doesn't look yellow at all (yes the fluor may be playing a part as well), so I'm curious to see the hand reference shot when you have it. Maybe ask for an indoor lighting photo as well?

It's a striking shape and I love it! I'm wondering if it could be more of a peruzzi cut rather than an old mine?

@goldnsilver I was thinking the same thing! Normally I'm not drawn to Peruzzis because I find them a bit off-balance, but this one felt right.

It was a great price too ($12.5k USD). You snooze, you lose.

I'm having trouble finding OMCs with the right facet pattern. This one felt like a unicorn. On to the next!

Oh noooo! That's so disappointing. I was assuming you had it on reserve and I'm so sorry to hear that. Hope you find another nice one soon. Fingers crossed!

Do you follow Adam at OWD? He just posted 4 or 5 OMCs all priced at 22K, and honestly, I'd buy any of them but my faves are 1, 3, and 4. 5 seems to match best what you're looking for but is U/V in color:

They are all on the warmer color spectrum but they look spectacular!

I do! 1 is definitely my favourite. If I could go see them in-person I would seriously consider dipping into that warm bath, but I think it’s too risky for me to buy online since I’m in Canada and returns are a PITA. If you see anything else I would welcome suggestions! I feel like I spent most of the break stalking the internet for stones.

I hope you’re on IG right now!

GUYS - I found the stone and it's en route to Canada, where I live and on HOLD for me!!! I won't be able to pay wholesale, but alas.

Best part is, I'm able to check it out in person before I commit. I love the jewelry community :)

Eek! Can't wait until you can see it irl! This is a big purchase-it's so great that you can assess it irl before you decide!

Oooooooo pretty!!! Tell us more about this!!!

It's currently in transit, so no proper vendor pics yet. I'm a bit nervous about the table being dark based on the video, but the video quality appeared poor.

It reminds me of @Demelza's peruzzi :)

I received some additional videos of the ring. This isn't awesome lighting but I'm nonetheless worried that the table is too dark. Can this be overcome by the way it's set? Is this part and parcel of this type of stone?

I LOVE the facet pattern, shape - and am not bothered by the warm colour

Would love to hear your thoughts!

I'm not so good at the analytical part of this, I think in the first videos it looked really pretty. These videos seem to have bad lighting! So it doesn't sparkle in those videos. But idk if it's only bc of the lighting. The table seems on the larger side causing a bit of windowing?? But again I'm bad at the analytical part of this. I love the pillowy shapes and peruzzis are such rare finds. I'm curious about how the others might weigh in who are better at discerning patterns, tables, etc.

I agree with @Mreader the lighting seems kind of bad.

I also found this VERY charming 1.8 carat old miner at an antique store today. They had it shoved amongst the modern cushions - probably because the setting is modern.

This table is remarkably bright. Cut is extremely wonky but in an alluring way.

Took the video under a desk to try to mask the halogen:

I can’t tell if I love it or not! That is one of the weirdest cuts I’ve ever seen! But I kind a like it at the same time. Sometimes you have to embrace the wonky.

I’m also not great with analyzing Peruzzi cuts. I agree that perhaps it’s poor lighting and that may there is some windowing/leaking happening with the center.

The second stone you posted didn’t really speak to me. I don’t love that the table is super off center and the faceting isn’t my favorite.

What do you think of this?

Would need to get lots of videos given M color grade, and see if seller ships to Canada but I think this is gorgeous.

@sweetpea&babycorn, agreed - it's a weirdo of a stone, which could be fun for a RHR but could fade as an eRing. I will be passing!

Thanks for sending those links. I don't love the inclusion on the 1.94 on the table (hidden in some of the pics) but the 2.46, wow! I've asked for more pics and videos.
