Roberto Coin drop pendant, amethyst (large...not sure of dimensions...but probably 8-10 carats), heft gold around it. Looked amazing when I put it in. It am talking about the piece in the middle.

600$.

The store claims retail is 1000.
Another shopper looked at it and said this is an excellent price for a Roberto Coin.

Is that correct?

Bump.

No opinion? ...Any kind would be much appreciated.

I just wonder whether you would consider this Roberto Coin amethyst pendant to be a good find in terms of price. The gold setting is quite hefty.

Amethysts can be very inexpensive. And now you get great cuts also for very less.

Gold- depends on the weight but it’s about the amethyst, I wouldn’t think it’s worth it.

In terms of gold by the weight and the stone itself...I can definitely see how such could be had with less.
But there was something to my eyes about how the piece of jewelry is put together.
This one had a very smooth, attractive designer feel. But I would only consider it if it was a spectacular find.
Otherwise, I have other emergencies now... I just didn't want to miss out on a "great deal". :-)

On a related note...speaking of jewelry...it is amazing how much a jeweler's craftsmanship can make a difference.
Assuming same gold weight and quality, same gems...there's something in the touch of a jeweler that will make the difference between a fine/refined/elegant piece and a clunky, frumpy one.

I visited another "fine jewelry" store today where they also make custom jewelry (it is not the one in the picture above).

Unlike the pieces I have seen at my jeweler's...these were all so frumpy and clumsy.
The gold looked fine, the stones were sparkly (so good quality) and yet, overall - those rings were so...uugh, clunky and just not fine.

By contrast, I am drooling over every piece I saw at my jeweler's store - he makes those highly fine, delicate paves all around the sides and just amazingly sophisticated designs.
I wish I had the money to buy many of those pieces.

This is why I considered the pendant above. It does have something fine/designer-ish in the way the pendant overall is put together. Even though amethyst t and gold can be had at lower prices, separately.

It appealed to me but yeah. I need to keep my eyes on the road and stay on track to deal with my ring.

Thank you!

I think you might want to consider whether it is 18 karat gold (solid, not plated). And whether it is a hefty piece -- lots of gold or did they scrimp? The value certainly isn't in the amythest, in fact it looks a little flat to me. I would look up Acinom's amythest ring and compare the colour, it is a gorgeous ring. Having said that, a custom 18 kt setting for a large amythest cab may set you back more than $600.

If you like the Roberto Coin brand, why not? Some like to create their own pieces while others like a ready made piece.

The piece doesn't do anything for me in particular, so I know I wouldn't buy at that price. I think there are more distinctive Roberto Coin pieces that, if I liked that designer, I would get before that piece. At 600 it is neither over or under-priced. If they could sell it for more, they would.
There is a jewelry store in my area that has their own bench and designers. I drool over everything in that store because they have a great eye for colored stones and I love their designs. but otherwise I am more likely to pick out a colored stone myself and then have it set.

I think it's a very fair and reasonable price for a designer piece. I'm not enthralled with the quality of the amethyst, but if it's gold, it's a decent buy.
