Is this a good cut and price....Seems too low compared to other websites. I found ones close to same specs, but cost was over a $1000.00 more on average. Is the cut off? From the research I have done this should be a great cut, but I cant figure if there is something wrong with this diamond or its over priced on other websites. I purchase this diamond because the price seemed like it was a great value. Now I am worried I might have been ripped off, I read on a website that some people swap out diamonds after the GIA grades them.

Here are the specs:

GIA 2151646603
.77 Carat
5.86X5.88X3.64
Color: G
Clarity: VSS1
Cut Grade: EX
Symmetry: EX
Polish: EX
Clarity Characteristics: Pinpoint, Cloud
Fluorescence 0
Table 56
Crown Angle 34.5
Crown % 15
Pav Angle 41.8
Pav % 43
Girdle 4%
Total Depth 62
Star 50%
Pav 80%

Cost $4,100.00

Is this a great deal or should I be cautious? Do you think this is a well cut diamond for the price? Do you think this is a well cut diamond period?

Thanks

Where did you do your research? This is very far away from a truly ideal cut. 5.3 HCA because of a very steep pavilion angle. If the vendor has a return policy, I'd take advantage of it and let us help you find something better.

Sorry, Typo...should be 40.8 Pav angle.

I just looked up your diamond on Rap and it comes from a very large reputable manufacturer at a great price. Its a diamond dossier with the inscription on the girdle. A good deal for sure.

And also the pavilion angle is 40.8 degrees not 41.8.

What is RAP? Never heard of this term.

This is my first diamond purchase...sorry if I am asking a dumb question.

Thanks

Happy to hear this was a mistake! One degree on a cut proportion makes a huge difference.

So, is this a really good price....or are the ones on James Allen and White Flash a little over priced? Or, is there something different about their diamonds that make them more expensive? I see they have something called H&A on the other websites, does that make them more expensive? It seems this diamond meets the Ideal standard cut according to what I have read doing research. I purchased it with a $2100.00 setting and it is coming tomorrow, total price $6,200.00. I plan on popping the question this weekend ....I just want to make sure its a good purchase. Kinda nervous with this weekend coming up and all...usually I don't sweat about things like this. Thanks for your input.

It should be very nice. You've done well.

The branded cuts you're referring to from Whiteflash and others also have ideal optical symmetry, aka Hearts and Arrows.

https://www.pricescope.com/wiki/diamonds/hearts-and-arrows-diamonds

It's simply an additional standard some people seek out when they want the very best. An easy explanation is that a Whiteflash ACA diamond is in the top 1% of all diamonds cut, compared to say, 2-5% for other true ideals from AGS/GIA.

Should I assume this is not a Hearts and Arrows type diamond? I dont see anywhere on Blue Niles website that they carry this type of diamond. Are they better than what I purchased? Or does it really make a difference. From what I read on those websites, you cant tell once it has been put in the setting?

Thanks again for the education. Some of this stuff is like rocket science.

didn't want to comment on H & A, but here it is.

There are many stones that are H & A without the designation.

It is judged by a machine. Tough for the human eye to see what the machine sees.

Thanks for all your help...I feel a lot better about this purchase now. Hopefully I will never have to do this again. Its been nerve racking over the last month. The only reason I went online was my older brother told me that I would have a larger selection and better prices. But, man o man was it hard to part with the better part of $6000.00 with out actually seeing this thing. The rings at Zales, Kays and Tiffany s were 40% or higher priced than this for the same quality. But, at least you could actually hold the item while they separated you from your wallet.

Thanks again everyone.

You're getting married. It doesn't get any cheaper from here on out....
Congrats on your pending engagement and post some pics when you get the ring.

The stones at Zales and Kays aren't the same quality, trust me.

I just talked to the seller about this diamond and they said by the cut I could assume this is a Hearts and Arrows diamond with 90% chance because of cut and 3 Ex GIA cert. Is this true or is this just a bunch of hocus pocus?....not that it matters, I have the ring coming, so its no turning back now. Just wanted to know if these guys are trying a smoke and mirrors job on me.

Thanks

It's BS. Just because it is GIA XXX doesn't mean it is a true hearts and arrows stone according to strict standards adhered to by many of the vendors here. That said, well cut rounds almost always have "hearts" and "arrows", but it's the precision of those H&A that determines whether or not a reputable seller will call it H&A and stand behind it.

And just because it has H&A doesn't mean it will have ideal light performance - that's determined by angles of facets, which you've already determined are pretty darn good in the stone you purchased.

And to 30yearsofdiamonds: I've never heard of a machine that determines H&A. Is this something new?

There are H&A viewers, but I'm not sure I'd really call them machines. Regardless, many ideal cut stones can exhibit H&As to varying degrees, but true H&A stones exhibit perfectly formed ones due the tight/specific cut specs it takes to reach that level optical symmetry.

Thanks for the information. I will post some pics today after it arrives.

I got a very similar stone, a local brick and mortar that has well cut stones.

.77 as well, but 62.4 depth so diameter at 5.84.  Same CA at 34.5 and PA of 40.8, even down to the same girdle thickness and SL and LH! Mine is a F, VS 2 and although not branded H&A, did have the symmetry, not 100 percent perfect though which jeweler showed me through the viewer. Based on angles alone, mine qualifies as AGS 000 so I think yours might be pretty close, HCA on mine 1.4 just got docked slightly for spread with slightly deeper depth. Stone was $4,300 last May so sounds like we both got similar price for non branded, although I think Whiteflash Expert Selection lately has similar pricing vs their ACA line.

Oh yeah and all XXX are hearts and arrow symmetry, not true as others have said.

I did the same thing, OP. I stole this .59 D-VS2 a couple nights ago for a hair under $2k.

There's deals to be had, and it looks like you got one. Congrats! :appl: Can't wait to see the pics.

Andelain: Gorgeous, what a steal indeed!

Cannot figure out the best way to take a picture of this. It looks super to the eye, but when I try to take a picture it just looks too bright. Maybe I need to take a picture in natural light and turn the flash off...will try when the sun comes out.

OK...wedding is a go. Here is the ring with diamond and wedding band she picked out. Wedding set for May 31st...easy day to remember since it the last day of the month. I know this seems like a short amount of time, but I grew up right across the road from her. We have been best friends since we were both 9 or so. And she supported me thru college and I did the same for her after I finished. I thought she was going to have a heart attack when I asked her to marry me, and she almost passed out when she opened the box with the ring. Thanks for all your input, made me look like a genius. Picture isnt the best, but the best I could manage.
