Is this a good opal?

Opals are my son’s birthstone and I came across this pretty and unusual opal and diamond ring. I love white opals (I know red and black are considered better quality but you love what you love). Can you tell if this is a good opal? I don’t have any better photos unfortunately.

Your photo is overexposed so I can't really see the color play in the opal. Have you other photos of it?

The setting is cool and it looks like a nice size and price, but I can’t tell if it’s a good opal from the photos. If you love the opal, get it. Black opals are rarer than white opals, but what matters is what you like. My husband had an opal and tourmaline pendant necklace made for me because my son is an October baby. Tourmaline is the alternate birthstone.

I wouldn’t buy it.
See those pointy bits in the setting, they will be catching on everything if not stabbing you or someone else.
If you’re ok with eBay shopping, I’ll have a look around and see what’s on offer. I’m an Aussie and I do have quite a few opals myself.

This gives a good view of the colours...it’s like a rainbow it’s sooo pretty!!! The appraisal says that it’s a cabochon opal 9x7x2.5mm, semi translucent with strong multi play of colours.

it’s not very noticeable as the yellow gold blends with my skin tone.

Thanks! It feels very unique and vintage. It’s a custom piece which clearly shows, the underside and tapered shoulders are also very pretty.
