Is this dress too sexy to wear to a wedding?
It''s the 19th in Detroit. The wedding is in church at 1:00 and the reception is at some hall at 6:00pm

for church, yes

yes, probably for church, unless you plan to wear something over it

I was going to wear something over it...not sure what...

I''m not from Detroit so I''m completely at a loss...I have no idea what to wear.
Any suggestions would be helpful.

it also depends on the shoes you are wearing - sky high, then yes a little too sexy. flats or small wedge (2 " ) then no, with appropriate shoulder wear (even a shawl) during church should be fine.

I also think it might depend on your height...if youre short, it''d be more okay than if you''re really leggy. But in general, I think the tops of knees are the highest I''d go for church.

I''m from Detroit.

Not too sexy if you have something over you at the Church. I think it''s cute!

I think so ... looks more like a neglige to me ...

I think it''s borderline. If you are short and don''t have much of a chest, it could look just right. If you''re tall or have any chest at all, it could look really inappropriate. Rob is right--it does have a little bit of a lingerie feel, but as long as it''s not too revealing on you, and you can wear a cardigan or wrap at church, I think it would probably be appropriate. If it were me, I''d probably consider another dress for the wedding and save that one for a fun night out.

I think it''s okay with something over it. My opinion probably doesn''t count, though because I''m from So California and this is what a lot of people wear.

there''s nothing really special or obvious about detroit that would dictate the type of style you should wear..... no one would bat an eye (at least in a bad way) with the dress you posted or anything that could be found at j.crew, nordstorms, macy''s, etc. sure you might want to consider if it is appropriate for a church wedding, but like others said a little shrug or something over that dress would be fine.

was there something that made you think that you had to tune into the native style of detroit?

Love the colour,
Hmmm.... if you are very leggy or very busty, then it may be a bit overly sexy, iykwim, it all depends on how you fit into the dress and the accessories you put with it.

The other thing to consider is how conservative / formal the wedding is, that should give you a clue.

A wrap would be good as a saftey net if needed, especially if it is in a church.

good luck

No comment on whether or not the dress is appropriate, just wanted to say that Arden B is my favorite store of all time hehe :)

A 6pm reception sounds like cocktail attire to me. I would cover it at church but I think its nice for an evening wedding indoors.

I am also on the young side, 26, my friends and I don''t think twice about wearing stuff that is a little showy. Some older people may be more dissaproving so I guess you need to take into account the mix that will be attending the wedding.

I think no problem for the 6 pm part. Not so great for 1 pm in a church. If you are near home or your hotel if it is OOT, why can''t you wear something to the church and then change into that for the party? You seem to have lots of time in between.

I think the dress is great! For church, wear a cardy or a shrug over top and keep your dancing shoes at home. For the reception break out your fancy jewelry and party heels and you''re set!

I went to a wedding a couple of weekends ago where many girls (mind you, they were definitely under 20) wore the same outfit to the church and reception and while they did look a little too fancy for a church, there wasn''t anything wrong with it per se. I wore a tight fitting black dress with a cutout in the back to both and I just switched up my shoes.

I love that dress!

OK so over here really anything goes at a wedding. Last one I was at, there was a girl in a butt skimming backless dress, and girls in floor length prom dresses complete with matching wraps and gloves that went over the elbow. I wore a maxi dress that had some cleavage going on but I covered up in the church with a wrap that I draped over my shoulders and across my front. Then I busted out the girls after dinner!

How about pairing that dress with a light knee length coat in a co-ordinating colour? Shoulders covered, legs covered down to knees, you can take the coat off during dinner and then enjoy the dancing all night in gorgeous cocktail dress!

The sleeveless/strapless look in a church is fine. Plenty of people wear those kinds of dresses to a wedding.

My issue with the dress is that its too short.

It''s a really nice dress though.

Ok...I like the idea of changing, I think I''ll have enough time to do that.
I think the red dress might be a little much for the ceremony, even if I''m covered.

what about this one for the ceremony...still too sexy?

Love love love the second dress for the wedding!

I think the dress is totally fine.

I live in Detroit (the city) and, as was mentioned above, pretty much anything goes. Not sure there is a "native" style here. If there is, I''m not tuned in! Other big cities might have them (Chicago, New York, LA) but not here!

I think both dresses are gorgeous. I am partial to the second one. The first would need something over it for church, I think.

Is the wedding in the city? Where?

And I saw your other post about weather this time of year. Last Wednesday it hit 90 degrees, and this morning at 9 am when I left my apt. it was 52 degress F. I wore a tank tops and skirts last week, I hauled out the corduroys with my sunburn from Saturday''s football game - so there you go.

So, literally you can expect anything. I would bring something to put over your arms whether you wear it or not - it could literally be 80 degrees and 40 degrees in the same day. Not even kidding.

Have a great time in Detroit - I think you''ll be pleasantly surprised at how pretty the city is. I know the reputation is bad, but it''s a great city and I''m proud to live here!

The 2nd dress is GORGEOUS!!! I think it''s perfect.

I guess I thought that Detroit had particulur style much like Chiago, LA, NYC etc...I''m not much of a fashion expert so I made my assuption

The wedding is at Ss. Peter & Paul Jesuit Church...I believe that''s in the city...but I could be wrong
The reception is at The Mabry Center...which has a different city address then Detroit...but I don''t think it''s too far from the church.

Both dresses are gorgeous. I think the first one is more appropriate for the wedding. Just put a wrap or cardigan on for the church. I always wear my cocktail dress to the ceremony and cover up if I''m at a religious venue.

Cool! That''s actually my church! Yes, it''s a Catholic Jesuit church, and it''s gorgeous, IMHO. VERY old. I live about 4 blocks from there - funny! It is right downtown, across the street from the Renaissance Center (GM headquarters). It''s actually connected to SO''s school, as that group of priests started the school in the 1800s. In fact, I will probably be in the library right next door when the wedding is going on, I spend about every Saturday there studying. If I see a girl in a cool purple or red dress, I''ll know it''s you - haha!

I may have to be outside taking a break near the courtyard so I can spy...hehe I love seeing brides and bridesmaids all dressed up!

The Mabry Center is in Warren, MI just north of 8 mile outside city limits. It''s about a 10-12 minute drive, not too far.

Have fun!

All the weddings that I''ve been to have been exactly like that too Delster-provided you look reasonably respectable, go for it! I adore that dress that you posted-with a wrap over it for the church it would be perfect.

#2! tres bien!

I really like the second one!

Yes! But that''s why I like it
