Hi,

i’m kind of new to rough stones. I was offered this what seems to be corundum for hefty price. While i do want to make money but i don’t want to risk my money getting into something i have no idea about.
Can anyone give their expertise into whether this rough is worth any investment or time at all? I’d appreciate any input. Thank you

I mean. I guess it could be worth something, but if you’re looking for « investment grade » this has so many red flags. Not least of which is that against white paper it looks like an opaque rock.

Understood. Appreciate your input. Maybe the photo is not a good quality. Red is only showing with the light up close. Here are some more pics with better lighting. It is glowing, except the light needs to be touching the stone. AD4E102E-CFA0-44A4-9936-74E39F15DD57.jpeg

If you are "new to rough stones," in no circumstance should you be paying a "hefty price" for "corundum." You don't know if it's corundum. You don't know if it's natural or man-made. You don't know if it's been treated, or how. You don't know if it's a desirable color or if it would splinter into pieces if you tried to facet it. I mean this in the nicest way possible: if you are asking strangers on the internet to decide if inconclusive photos of a random rock is worth your investment or time, the answer is unequivocally no.

Aside from its transparency, which seems lacking, the presence of inclusions particularly feathers / fissures needs to be assessed by an experienced gem cutter. The rough may be too included and or/ unstable to be successfully cut into commercial gemstones. If the rough is not cuttable it’s value, very modest, is just that of a crystal specimen.
no one here, to my knowledge, is an experienced gem cutter who can assess a rock via a few vague photos and give an opinion regarding commercial value.
I would very strongly advise you against buying these rocks, they are definitely not investment grade and unless they are like $50 (for all of them) and you think them pretty to maybe put in an aquarium, dont buy them.

Why do you think this seller needs you? If it's high quality, why would he/she not find a knowledgeable buyer who could appreciate its fine quality? I think you know the answer...
