Is this ring too thin?

Hi,

I bought a Tiffany ring second hand, and I’m wondering if the band is too thin at the bottom. I know knife edges look thin, but I’m worried. I’m still in the return period.

In the one photo, I’m comparing it to a 2mm ring.

Also including the diamond. .96 G VS1, triple excellent. It’s so beautiful!

Is it possible the knife edge is a playing a trick on your eyes? See marked up picture below. To the right it appears the ring is a little thicker than the center section because you are getting more of a view of knife edge profile.

I tried to show a cross section through the center and hope it helps. Effectively in that center section, due to the knife edge profile I think you are only seeing a portion of the total thickness. Make sense?

My wifey has worn a ring much thinner than that at the bottom for over 15 or so years with no issues.
Just don't wear it while lifting weights at the gym.

I greatly appreciate this diagram. @sledge are you an engineer or drafter?

I agree.
We may misjudge the ring's width due to the optical illusion you so effectively described.

@pugpugpug - I’m sorry for the slight diversion here, but can you pls tell me what size finger you have? It helps with getting a sense of proportion.

Also, pls consider posting this ring in the “Under 1 carat” thread in Show Me The Bling; she’s a lovely classic and I’m sure would inspire a lot of people!

It should be okay. It’s metal so it’s tougher than it may look. I think it looks like it thinned a little but then again it could be an optical illusion as others said. Regardless I would just be careful while wearing it as with any other ring whether it’s thinned or not.

I’m a 6.5! And I love that thread. I’ll post when I get some better photos (and my nails done)!

Thanks everyone! I feel better now. The ring doesn’t feel flimsy. The diagram was super helpful!
