So while trying to help with HappilyEverAfters cake topper search (I so hope someone is a miracle worker and finds it for you!), I found myself browsing again at cake toppers myself. I came across one that I like more and more as I look at it, but I'm wondering if it's too cheesy? I haven't run it past my FI yet as I'm sure he'll remind me I need to be looking for jobs not cake toppers right now :D

I just think it's adorable, and you don't see too many actual bride and groom cake toppers anymore... but then I second guess myself and go.... am I going to regret that looking back? Would I rather just have our last initial on there? Some flowers? Something more modern? If I get the "cheesy" one, what am I going to do with it after the wedding? If I go with an Initial or a modern one, I could set it out as a decoration which I would love to do, but it'd be odd to have such an obvious cake topper sitting out all the time, no?

Anyways, enough of my rambling...
Heres the one I think is adorable: Kissing Couple Cake Topper

Heres one if I went with our last initial, a Y. I don't care for alot of the Y's I see when it comes to the initial cake toppers, but this is one of the few I kinda like: Initial Y

And heres one thats a bit more modern: Profound Love Figurine

So what do you gals think? Is the kissy one too much? Am I just nuts for even thinking seriously about it already? Our wedding is 09/13/08... and we don't even have where we're getting our cake from yet! Should I just not think about it yet and worry when it's closer? Be blunt, I can take it!

The kissing couple cake topper is adorable! It''s fun and cute and sweet :-)

What''s the rest of your wedding like? I love the profound love figurine too, but I''m not liking the initial (you asked for honesty!)...

So, depending on the atmosphere of your wedding, I''d say the couple cake topper or the figurine

I'm not so sure I like the curls of the Y the more I look at it, it's so hard to find a decent Y it seems!! :)

Our wedding is fairly casual I guess you could say, food is rotisserie chicken and BBQ ribs... so it's not like it's a black tie affair or anything (no matter how fun I think it would be if it was!!) ;) So I don't feel like it's going to stick out from the rest of our decor too badly or anything.. I guess I'm worried people will think it's tacky.

ETA: I don't think the other figurine would really stick out either, I'm really going for a relaxed romantic vibe, so I think either would fit, just that the kissing one is so different from what I've seen at weddings the past few years :)

I hate to say it, but I think the first one is well... slightly obscene. I know it makes me sound like a TOTAL prude... but the grooms hands are on her ass... and then you put that on top of a CAKE?

Sorry, I know... excessively blunt but... that's EXACTLY what I'd think as a guest if I saw that thing on top of a cake.

I don't like the Y either, it's those curly things. As for the modern one? It would need to sit on a modern cake in a very modern venue to work for me... and it would have to fit the couple.

I''m with Gypsy on this one....sorry! I love the thought of a good bride and groom cake topper, though. I guess I''m just a little more traditional thinking...I love the first one if only the bride''s legs weren''t wrapped around her groom, hee hee.

Gyp, Monnie, and Me...three little musketeers. All for one and one for three...agree.
31.gif
Risk kay. Her skirt it hiked and well...I can add more details, but won''t.

I like the initial idea...just not sure about that one. In that group of letters is it a great Y. But alone...I wonder if people will say....WHY? What is that? Can you shop for more Y''s? Sorry to mess up your apple cart. §

I think the first one is a bit 'much' as well. I think the other two are very nice.

Partyjewels, I momentarily considered that kissing topper myself, too. Then I saw a photo of it from behind the groom looking at his back. Woah buddy. Let me tell you, if the side view doesn''t send your mind to the gutter, the back view sure does.

However, if you like the kissing and potential sweetness of it, have you seen this one? http://www.daisy-days.com/picture-of-bliss-bride-groom-cake-topper.html

I like the casualness of the first one, but like the others said it is a bit riskque (sp?)

I agree again with the others of the Y (haha I almost got the M version of this, but we didn''t order in time, one of my many indecisions)

I really like the last one, and it could always sit beside the cake, but it depends on what your cake looks like.

Really it doesn''t matter what you get as long as you like it, but remember that your family and grandparents, etc will see it too!

Also, you had wondered what to do with it after... my two ideas (depending on the topper) were to turn into an xmas ornament for our tree or (if too big) then put in a shadow box with other wedding memorabelia. Unless it is so super beautiful like my elusive lovebirds, then i''d display it as a centerpiece somewhere.

Partyjewels... I think the first cake topper is cute as a button, but I have to agree with a few others here... it looks a bit like the wedding night is taking place on top of your cake. That was my initial thought and I had to stare at the picture for a few seconds to realize what was REALLY going on.

http://www.daisy-days.com/picture-of-bliss-bride-groom-cake-topper.html What about this one? It is very relaxed and seems perfect for your type of reception, but still has that whimsy.

Edit Topic: Ladyciel, we had the same thought.... after I posted my response I read through all the replies and realized I reposted the same topper! Well Partyjewels, 2 votes for the bliss bride-groom cake topper!

I second everyone else''s thought about topper #1. I do like the "picture of bliss" topper, but it kinda bugs me that they''re just white and just black. BUT, if you''re an only white or only black couple, it works well!! :)

Hey Party! I think #1 is cute...but only appropriate for a certain kind of wedding and a certain group of people. I can see it at an intimate small-ish wedding, with a group of very good-humored family and friends. Even though I think it''s cute and different, it would not work at my wedding because I just know some of my guests won''t have that kind of good humor. It''s not necessarily a cheesy cake-topper, but I can see some guests at my wedding saying "hm. tacky." But that''s just MY guests...maybe all of your guests have a good sense of humor.

To be honest, I''m not a fan of #2 or #3.
7.gif
But it all depends on the style of your wedding!

I like the one that ladyciel and blueeyes posted. Same style as #1 but more tasteful. How do you feel about that one?

Ditto to everything Gypsy says! I''m not prudish at all, but that first one made me do a mental "Yikes!"

As for the 'modern' bride and groom cake toper, you could say 'weeeellll, they are married

31.gif
'! But I wouldn't, it could be cute for an informal anniversary but I would rethink. As for the porcelain figurine, I think it looks too much like a figurine and not a cake topper.

I love the 2 lovebirds recently posted, they are super emotive, IMO.

Happy hunting!

i think i''m all alone in my camp, but i kinda like the first one!! it''s very passionate indeed, so it would have to fit the humor of the people attending the wedding, or not, because it is YOUR day, but i like it. dammit.

i also like #3, but it''s a total opposite to the first one. the one ladyciel posted is more like the first one, but it''t the difference between cute and sexy, you know? tough call...good luck!

To be completely honest... and by no means trying to insult anyone... but I came across that first topper when I was helping to look for doves on another thread. Someone had mentioned making a "Ugly Cake Toppers" Thread (much the same as the "Ugly rings" thread)... and this was he first topper I thought of, not bc it;s ugly, just different. That is only becuase my mom''s head would spin if she saw that on top of a multi thousand doolar cake.

However, I think this would be PERFECT for a cake at a Bachelorette Party. I think I might keep it in mind.

Steel- I agree... I don''t like the fact that it is porcelain, and looks so bulky. It reminds me of those heavy ballet dancers that ppl have on their coffee tables. I was trying to find it in another material but came up empty handed.

OMG me too me too....

I blushed. haha

First one is like, um Sex on a cake? I hope none of coworkers saw me open that, lol... No offense girl, just being honest.

lol, I''d keep looking.

Thanks for all your comments, suggestions, etc. everyone. I asked for honesty so I'm glad I got it :) I suppose if I really wanted it, I could show it to my grandma and see what she has to say, because if she thought it was ok, I'd get it anyways! hehe. Otherwise I guess it's back to the drawing board. Last night I just didn't really see the whole sex on the cake thing, lol. Hey, maybe I could use it on a grooms cake if we have one! ;)

I just haven't really found anything I care for in the way of cake toppers (well, none that I feel would be right for our wedding, because I absolutely love that dove one!), and I don't really want flowers on the cake. Maybe whoever ends up doing our cake could make a sugar Y? Or I guess I could do A J&M kinda thing...

Blah. See, if I wait to find a topper, I'll never find one!

ETA: Maybe I'll be able to find one where her legs aren't wrapped around him? Because thats the main part that makes it seem racy right? That and his hands being on her arse?
31.gif
Something more along the lines of this but better? http://www.weddingswithclass.com/p/TKB1933

I need to stop thinking so hard about it! :D

I actually saw a topper in one of my searches where the groom had his arms wrapped around the bride''s torso and was holding her close to him, while he was leaning back... and one of her legs was bent up at the knee under the dress. If you have seen "The Princess Diaries", it is just like what she says has to happen when she kisses a guy for her to know its perfect.

I will search for it...

We used a Precious Moments figurine as a cake topper. It''s the groom carrying the bride. Really cute, and it''s now in the china cabinet on display with some other ones.

Could you use the first one on a bridal shower cake? That might be a good place for it!

I love number 1 and number 2. I think the initial idea is great!

These are pretty pricey, but cute... http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=5589325

I think I might try to get a little Martha Stewart-y and try to make my own little bride and groom toppers. I''m thinking about using those wooden artist models that have the bendable joints and stay in the position you put them. I''ll have the seamstress keep the scraps from hemming my dress and make the little dress out of that. We''ll see how it works....the dress shouldn''t be too bad, but I''m a little worried about making the little tux for FI!!

Here is my inspriation http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=7763371

Not sure how crafty you are, but I''m looking forward to that little project!!

KaraSue those are great! I used to be pretty crafty/artistic but lately I just haven''t had the time to do anything really. I still remember my brothers cake topper from their wedding! It''s also the only cake I remember from a wedding too! They had buck and doe figurines that my mom found for them, my mom either found/made a little top hat and bow tie for the Buck, and a veil (and possibly a necklace I can''t recall) for the Doe, it was precious! And I think after the wedding they simply took off the little extras and still have the figurines set out somewhere.

Using the bendable models sounds like a good idea for a base, make sure you post pictures! :)
