to play guess the diamond color..
I got another e-bay fancy colored diamond. The color isn't at all what I expected it to be. In fact I'm not really sure what it is. My best guess is fancy deep brownish greenish yellow. The pear directly next to it is GIA graded fancy deep brownish orange. The rounds are pink brown and brownish orangy pink. Any guesses?

My excuse is that I'm finding it hard to guess color in those photos - I feel like I want brighter ambient daylight. If that doesn't work, then I'll go with your guess. I definitely think its a yellow body with brown and green. :))

Hi,

I think you got it right. I have one that is a bit lighter in tone, but is about the same color. I want it to be green something, but I think the body color is yellow. You actually have confirmed the color for my stone. Thanks.

Below are some better pictures. I think it might actually be fancy dark not deep because it's dark even in bright sunlight.

I think you nailed it in your photo caption: "Mystery Diamond." It looks like it will be good addition to your ever growing FCD necklace.

maybe dark olive green? It looks like it could be chameleon-like in different lighting.

My guess, fancy dark greenish brownish yellow?

Kroshka

It could be fancy deep yellowish brown, like this diamond, even though they say in the title, it's greenish. It's probably some combination of yellow, brown, green. It probably doesn't matter that much though, so enjoy it.

This company doesn't have a GIA report for this stone, but I thought I'd post it anyways. I like Leibish, but it's easier to find colors with this website, more quickly.

Curiosity got the best of me, so I submitted it to GIA on the 19th of June. The turn around for colored diamonds has been running about a month, so I still have 2 more weeks or so until I find out.

and the answer is Fancy Deep Yellow-Brown, Natural Even. It's probably not worth the cost of the report, but I guess that's the price I pay for my curiosity.

Why is it not worth the cost of the certificate? Did you compare the ebay price of this stone with a similar stone from the two vendors with the big "L"???

I bought several diamonds on ebay and will send them to GIA too - grey, some olive and brown/yellow/orange combinations.
If they are untreated it was a great deal - if not the price was o.k.! All sold as natural untreated but who knows...

It was a bit gambling. We will see..

I paid $110 for the stone and $98 for the report, so my total investment is $208. I think it's probably I1. I really haven't done any comparison shopping, but I can't imagine it's worth more than that. You win some and lose some. I also sent in the yellow marquise that was .28 at the same time that was an ebay find for $68. It came back as natural fancy yellow. I'd say that's a good deal. I hope yours come back as natural.

and the weight of this pear diamond?

I purchased for example an 0,31ct cushion in fancy grey with chalky blue fluorescence and chalky orange phosphorescence!!
SI clarity. It was below 100$ - a type Ia diamond with microscopic inclusions responsible for the grey color.

With a GIA cert. around 200$ - no chance to get such a stone from Leibish or Langerman for this price.

Of course this only works with grey or brown/yellow/green/orange combination. But the money I save here could I spend for a pink or blue tiny one.

I know that some are treated... but some def. not.

Think you made a good deal!

Definitely an awesome deal. I have been collecting fancy greys, browns, brownish pinks, greyish greens, greyish yellowish greens, brownish orange, and even some yellows on ebay for 20 years. I have been able to get some really great pieces for a fraction of what I would have paid for in the retail marketplace. If they are treated, I don't care as much because most of the colors I purchased are not super rare or valuable, but nothing really sparkles like a diamond.

I love Liebish, and recommend them often, but I think they cater more towards the collector of fine FCD's, then someone like me, that likes to make fun pieces of jewelry with my "non-rare" colors.

I will use Leibish course I dream of three 0,4-0,5 ct round vivid yellow, vivid orange yellow and vivid greenish yellow!!!!!!

I love the canary or Zimi colour like a daffodil or sulphur.

I you want this or pink and blue you need these vendors!!!

I think with those colors, the GIA report is important if you care about treatment or if you are worried about having a synthetic diamond. In any case, having a GIA doesn't hurt.

With fancy blues, greens, reds, and other very rare colors, the GIA report actually enhances the value. Many collectors search for those colors, and will refuse to buy one without a GIA report. Many people invest in rare FCD's.

BTW, I think that fancy browns, greys, and other non-valuable colors are very beautiful. I hope no one thinks I'm dissing them, since I have many in my collection and I LOVE them all.

Susie,
You have a great collection there.

Honestly I buy these colors course I don't believe somebody treat a diamond to become olivgreen or grey or brown.

So it is a natural color or an "accident".

And it is so nice to play with 40-50 diamonds :D

There are irradiated browns.

And here's an irradiated olive one on ebay.

Yes, I know - this is what I mean with an " accident" - don't believe that this is the color they wanted.

I will send step by step my diamond larger then 0,25 ct to GIA - all my FCD were purchased as untreated - some are maybe treated ( colour and fluorescence)

Diamond is really tricky today - I think of buying a spectrometer - http://www.cigem.ca/store/instruments/gl-gem-spectrometer

Could help to decide which diamond send to GIA.
