I recently bought a piece of jade in a small antique shop in Xianyang, China. I don't think that it's real, but I'm curious to know what kind of mineral the amulet is really made of. It would be great if you guys could share your opinion on this. Thanks!
p.s.
the volume of the jade is 2 cm^3 and the mass is 5-7 grams
I would be happy to provide more information if you need any IMG_1143.JPGIMG_1149.JPG

Could be utility jade.

That pendant is jadeite. Utility jade means the quality of jade that is used for tiles, trays, vases, etc. often found in large boulders. More common than more translucent, more saturated jadeite.

could you possibly give an estimate as to how much it may be worth? The antique shop was willing to sell it to me for 150 yuan and it's around 1.5 x 3 x .5 cm.

In Yangon I will pay max us$10 for this. The carving is on the rough side and the jade is small.

If you are right next to xian then I would recommend the shaanxi history museum. There is a small exhibit full of rubies, jade and gold they dug out of the ground. The jade is spectacular, it glows from within. I dont know much about jade, but there really was no substitute for seeing that stuff in real life.

I'd like a better picture.
