I've been rummaging estate sales online, and came across this jadeite pendant on Everything But the House. Is there any way for me to see (based on the photograph) if this is type A, B, or C? I suspect it might be B. For ~$150 USD, as a pendant that is already made, is this a good deal?

It's unfortunately not possible to tell through a photo. Treated jade is pretty common, and some of those treatments include leaving or creating imperfections to more closely mimic untreated jade.

@MissSarah, thank you for letting me know. I suppose that I should bid whatever I'm comfortable with assuming it's jadeite, but heavily treated. At least it's not glass! =)2

Assuming it's type A jadeite which it might be, it's just run of the mill somewhat thinly sliced donut with slight base colour. It has lots of cotton that is clumpy, too thick for most preference. I would only price the pendant for the gold, assuming it is.

I'm leaning towards A jade coz unappealing slight base colour and too much cotton clouds :)

Sorry for being frank! Just my 2 cents.

Thanks @Burmesedaze! No apologies necessary! I don't mind honesty. I also wound up bidding on this ring, which is interesting but likely has been treated with the darker green dye. Hopefully $220 isn't an outrageous price for such a ring. I've been interested in jadeite lately, and finally succumbed to bidding.

I can accept the inclusions in jade! i like this better than the green below. As its a little translucent

I feel like the pendant is type A as $150 USD IMHO is actually quite high already for the cotton quality jade unless it is over 4mm thick otherwise it appears to be icy because it is just thin so $150 is doable.

and for the ring, $220 is not a bad price if it is solid gold over 14k but the jade quality again is not there, if it is type A you are paying for the green jade color only, but the surface is rough and the jade is dry, two things that usually jade buyers would try avoid. If you already purchases the ring, I would suggest get second opinions, I think it can be B (specially if it is vintage, it was common practice to add color back in the days).
