Hi! I'm shopping for a padparadscha right now, but am looking at grade A as a gift for my mom-- my idea is to set it into a ring. Like me, my mom's ring size is also small-- I think US3? Anyways, what do you guys think of these two options?

Is the second stone > 1 ct?

I think generally older generation prefers green so would generally go with that. But it is a bit small...

True, that's my concern tbh lol, esp compared to the icy one. What do you think about the quality of the green though?

Color looks nice.

But then the pic looks unreal so I would ask for more pics and videos and the measurement.

Also pic or video showing a light shone through the stone to see how translucent the stone is.

Also, what color does the vendor claim the stone to be? The Chinese “name” for the color. And... look at the shape/height of the dome, whether is grade A jade, certified with reliable lab, etc.

Ok still think the stone is on the small side. But a bright green is probably more eye catching than icy stone. So there is some offset. The icy one also doesn’t look like the 荧光 (?) is very good

Ask the vendor:

1. is there a colour difference between the picture and the actual item. If yes, by how much?

2. if they used an iPhone to take the picture. I normally ask for that.

3. what type of quality and colour. Ice? High ice? Yang green? Intense green? Full green?

4. to show you a side view of the stone. High domes are desirable. You could ask for measurements but seeing it at the side helps you visualise those measures.

5. to get it certified afterwards. If this item is costly, ask if you can pay for certification and then it gets certified, then you pay the full amount.

6. any lines on the stone? Ask them to shine a light through to show you. If there is a hidden line (that is not a crack) and you don't mind, you can use that as a bargaining chip to lower prices.

7. about cotton. Jadeite has cotton. Ask her to show you and you have to judge if that is obvious (she will tell you not obvious).

Does your mum like massive honkers or tiny stones?

It is rather small imo but if she prefers small then the colour is lovely.

Also does your mum enjoy colour? Or does she love clear icy stones? For example I ADORE colour and would have no use for a glassy stone no matter how awesome it is. Some people are opposite and the glass or ice is everything.

Agree with all the advice above from icy_jade and ChaiK.

Based on the glowing green drawer pulls (or something) in the background, I think the green channel has been mightily boosted in the second photo. If it is accurate (slim chance, imo), then that stone by a mile.

Definitely the green one. My amateur eye thinks the first one looks too much like a moonstone.

I actually decided to request a slightly larger green jadeite based on @icy_jade 's advice, and was sent these pics today:

Any thoughts/feedback?

I like the colors!!! Measurements?

Is the price decent for where you are?

The lighter/more transluscent one is 13mm X 12mm X 6.7mm for HKD22000, and the bigger one is 15mm X 12mm X 7mm and it's going for HKD25000.

Bottom 2 the same? I like them. Same questions. What green does the seller say they are? A grade, any visible stone lines, etc etc?

But I’m terrible at reading green color from photos so take what I say with a pinch of salt. I even find my own ring baffling. Like why the green looks so different in different lighting...
