Hello, I visited Jared with a my girlfriend a while back and she found a setting she really liked. I went back to Jared later and the setting was $1500 but I can get it 20% off due to a current Valentine’s Day sale. Is this a good price?

Also the diamonds I have found at Jared are a lot more expensive than a nicer diamond I can find online at James Allen. (https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/1.01-carat-d-color-vs1-clarity-sku-10661891)

Would it make sense for me to get the setting there and the ring at Jared and the diamond online? Who would you recommend I have set the diamond?
Or would it be better to have James Allen custom copy the ring?
I have attached a picture below.
Thanks!

Definitely do not buy the setting from Jared. Their settings are not high quality at all. Definitely try to find something similar from james allen .

Would you recommend getting the setting custom made by James Allen or trying to find another one?

Did Jared say they would work with a diamond bought elsewhere?

No to Jared. I have found their service and quality to be lack luster. I would get everything at James Allen and request customization. I worked with Cheyenne recently and she was helpful.
I found a semi similar setting on JA

If you decide to not go with JA for the setting, perhaps you can get a quote from another 3rd party custom jeweler? I see David Klass recommended on here a lot, he’s quite reasonably priced I believe and I’m sure the quality of what he makes will far outstrip Jared. I agree that going with Jared is a bad idea - their bench quality is appalling.

I am kinda surprised that Jared is offering to work with a diamond elsewhere at that price. The price includes mounting too? 1.5k is reasonable though I do not know about the quality of the setting and bench.
I am also surprised that neither JA or BN stocks that setting. Looks very simple and generic (not saying it is bad looking)

Anyhow, unless you have a very specific design in mind or save ALOT, I recommend working with one vendor and going with a stock setting. The reason is that you are unhappy with the finished product or craftmanship, or simply change your mind, you can just return the whole ring and start over again. If you go custom, your options are very limited.

I would try to see what parts of the setting she likes and find something similar at james allen. If she lines the "twisty" or "crossover" look they have a few that should work.

I dont think (or lets say havent seen) James Allen do custom work. I have seen them to minor changes to the settings they have
but not a custom setting from scratch. Did you ask JA if they do this?

They have this one but I'm going to assume its a little too "split" for you.

I'm not. Jared and James Allen are both branches of Signet.

Actually, it's not surprising at all. Jared and JA are in partnership with each other for services to jewelry sold by JA. Their "Lifetime Warranty" services are done by Jared. You can take your jewelry there to have any work done that's covered under the warranty.
