Feelers for my jedi spinel "ringdant". I dont wear it anywhere near as much as I expected to, and I want it to be worn and enjoyed.

Spinel is from Higems on instagram. He has a good reputation with some of us on the colored stone forum, but I dont have any official paperwork for the stone. There are some internal inclusions that make me quite sure its natural, but I cant say with 100% certainty. They're hard to capture via photo bc the stone is so bright and you can only see them in the right lighting. I paid 1600 for the stone back in 2018. Its 1.12ct, 5.1*5.9*4.7mm. Small inclusion /nick on the edge that's currently covered by a prong. Happy to try and take close ups of it, but tricky because my phone keeps focusing on the diamonds and stone.

The setting is from Jewelry Hoo on ebay (I think they also go by Cai Mao) and is 14k white gold. I upgraded to VS quality versus the standard SI. Unfortunately, Ebay doesnt store transactions or messages beyond 3 years, so I have no way of getting that. However, I have the original thread for the piece here, which includes CADs: https://www.pricescope.com/communit...-ring-pendant-convertible-piece.245007/page-1

I paid 1500ish for the setting, and 1600 for the stone, so around $3100.

Asking $2000.

Thanks for looking!

If you want more pics than can be found on the original thread, look here for ones taken today:

This is gorgeous! I can't imagine it's going to be around long... but sending pixie dust your way anyway. :kiss2:

I'm sorry you seem to have received an empty box!!!!!

But please edit your post so your name/address and that of LoveDogs' isn't visible in the photo.

(Not trying to be Net Nanny so please forgive me if it seems that way!)

Your post has been reported to the mods, hopefully it will be removed soon.

ugh this is a freaking nightmare I've sent stuff from that postal annex a million times with no issues. I am SO sorry @Mkrsz1ppy ! I am hoping that my DH or I somehow moved the ring out of the box without remembering. I am out of town until Wednesday, but I am going to scour my entire house for it once I get back. The only alternative is that someone from the postal annex stole it (which would be freaking awful). My plan is to go there in person to ask about it if I can't find it.

Obviously this isn't @Mkrsz1ppy 's fault at all, and I will make sure she is made whole (hopefully by me finding the ring and realizing I'm a moron who moved it out of the 'to send' box), but if not then by refunding her. I've bought and sold multiple times without issue, and know how important trust it is for people to feel comfortable.

I've started taping the heck out of the item I'm shipping to the inside of the envelope/box. That way if they try to steal the item, they'd have to wreck the whole package essentially. I'm hoping that if that isn't enough to deter someone from theft, at least it'd make it super obvious that the package had been tampered with and would provide the necessary proof for the insurance claim.

I've unfortunately been a victim of mail theft done by the mail courier. You can find it as I started a thread I believe about my new sapphire and diamond antique ring that I had purchased and was excited to get.

The only difference was the package mysteriously went missing yet it was found on the UPS truck, ripped open with it empty behind the driver's seat. The driver claimed to have received it that way but tracking showed that a delivery was attempted at my home, which it was not. In the end I know the driver pocketed the ring.

I purchased it through ebay, so I was made whole immediately and sadly the seller from Canada didn't purchase insurance so he was out for the cash and the ring and the listing.

It's really unfortunate but sometimes there's crappy people in the world. I've used USPS and have never had any issues with that sort of thing...they take their jobs seriously. I cannot say the same for UPS and have not used them since, although I know many who swear by them.

I pray you had a mind fart and forgot to put it in the box @lovedogs . So sad for both!

Nope, the possibility that I forgot to put it in the box was officially ruled out today :( as I got back in town and checked all over my house. I am now positive it was stolen in transit by the mail carrier or something.

I made the mistake of not taping the ring box itself, but rather using packing peanuts to protect the ring box within the shipping box. The problem with that is (as @LemonMoonLex pointed out), that someone can take the item out of the untaped ring box and then re-seal the shipping box. Lessons learned:

1. Tape the ring box and/or put it in a smaller taped box within the shipping box so people would have to work much harder to steal anything

2. Dont get too comfortable shipping from a location, even if you've shipped there before. I basically go on autopilot at this location because I always ship from them. But should have been more cautious and weary.

I refunded @Mkrsz1ppy as clearly this was a freak event and not her fault.

Do you think the carrier figured out somehow that you were receiving a lot of jewelry items at that address and that’s why they decided to steal that package? I do worry that small boxes with eBay tape on them can sometimes indicate jewelry.

No eBay tape was used

The absolutely safest way to ship is USPS Registered mail. It’s a PITA to follow their rules, but it is under lock and key every step of the way, and you can insure to $25000. It’s slow but safe. I ship to AGL and GIA that way.

I was just using the tape as an example of how the carrier might guess what’s in the package. It seems unlikely that the carrier just got lucky choosing to steal a package with something expensive in it. Maybe they use a metal detector or something!

Oh, man. I’m sorry to hear it was stolen. :(sad

I always ship with USPS but I’ll admit it makes me nervous that they can see how much the shipping is (and determine it’s potentially higher value from that). I wonder if that’s what happened to yours.

Maybe you could check out some local pawn shops? Or even eBay? Who knows, maybe you’ll get lucky.

The shipping cost wasnt that high because I didnt insure for extra $$. But I think my big mistake was having a ring box that wasnt all taped up. It was just too easy to open the box and take the ring out. Ugh, I feel soooo stupid. I've shipped a million times and nothing has ever happened like this before.

Well that just sucks. So sorry to hear this has happened. :(

You‘re not stupid. You said it yourself, you’ve shipped a million times and never had a problem. I think we all have…and it can make you feel like nothing can go wrong. It only takes one jerk out there to ruin it. :angryfire:
I really am sorry this happened to you.
