Small whinge which I know you will all understand....:angryfire:

I left my perfectly cut EC tsavorite with a local jeweller to be set EW, semi-bezel in a rose gold band. Verrry simple. Gave her pictures and clear detailed instructions. She sends it to her bench elsewhere. Inspiration below:

A month later I get a random call saying it's all done! (What happened to my quote?)

I go in and receive something like this:

To make matters worse - the actual stone is set visibly CROOKED and the polish is horrendous, still scratched etc.
I look at her in bafflement. This is literally NOTHING like what I asked for! She said "he thought the stone looked better set the other way" :wall:

I sent it back and made it clear if he cannot/will not make the setting I asked, simply return my stone.

UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.................... :eh:

YKEs! they dont know NS setting from EW WITH Examples pictures???

:eek2::eek2::eek2:

Obvious oversight and did not check on bench. Ridiculous. Refuse to accept!

Sigh. Seems like everyone has the occasional setting woe with benches and jewellers all over the world.

It's so horribly frustrating and annoying when someone overrides our decisions. Why even bother telling them what you wanted, if no one listens?! WHO CARES what he thought?! What you want is the only thing that matters. I like your inspiration ring. It's simple and elegant. The semi-bezel is perfect!

Arghhh! I feel your pain @HotPozzum. Sorry you are going through this and I am sure you will be relieved when you have the stone and setting back and you can bring it to a good jeweler and get it done right if they cannot. I mean first they set it the wrong direction and then on top of that it is crooked? And that took a month to do? WTH.

I love your inspiration ring and when it is finally set it is going to be gorgeous.

Good lord! It's your choice to buy what you want - not what a vendor thinks you should have. When they give you something contrary to what you're trying to buy, they're basically spending your money for you.

She said "he thought the stone looked better set the other way"

That's terrible. If she had said it was a mistake, this would seem straightforward to resolve. Mistakes happens, people zone out sometimes, maybe he mixed it up with another order, whatever.

But she just told you that the jeweler is happy to take your money while completely disregarding what was agreed upon as part of the business transaction/deal you both took part in.

I'd ask for my money and my stone back and would then go elsewhere. That's BS.

Well I guess the good news is that the jeweler and bench do not specialize in plastic surgery. Seriously though- I am sorry this happened to you and hope you get your stone back quickly and run as fast as you can away from that jeweler.

Reminds me of when you go to the hairdressers with a picture, and they give you one of the five styles they actually know, because ‘that’s what everyone has’... :roll

I'd ask for the stone back, a full refund if you have paid anything and start again with someone new.

Wow. The band looks the same but that’s about it. I hope you get all of your money back and find someone who deserves your business.

Even if the jeweler thinks EW is impossible, that’s no excuse. They need to tell the customer the issue before going ahead.

Huh? Wha?! What a poor excuse! I'm sorry this has happened @HotPozzum.

Sorry, I had to laugh, that's sooo bad.
Change the Qs:
Are there local jewelers who DON'T think they know better?
I mean, still, you can get the most amazing disinformation on gems, from treatments to cut and clarity, from straight-faced 'we-do-this-for-20-years' sales people claiming e.g. 'all sapphires are always heated'.
:wall:

Yes! Jewellers really drive me mad sometimes and I have so many stories of when they’ve not had a clue what they were talking about. Either that, or they get defensive and bite your head off if you ask a simple question because they are too proud to admit they don’t know the answer...

Amazingly beyond comprehension.

In defense of local jewellers there are SOME. The one I use is one. We try to give them as much of our business as possible. But I had to visit with several and when I would come in I asked some questions and depending on their answers to them I either did or did not come back.

The one who was the worst about the bad information though was a repair shop who was fixing my prongs on an antique ring because I could not get to my usual jeweller before my dad ended his visit so I sucked it up and used this place.

A guy came in who knew exactly what he wanted and had some knowledge and was telling them about the diamond shows he went to and was asking if they had anything similar and the woman very rudely told him what he was looking for was impossible! I was thisclose to asking him of he ever heard of PS and suggesting he go visit some of the suggested vendors lol.

Another shop took my ring back to their ultrasonic and then told me a stone was loose. I was horrified and took it right to my jeweller who was like???? Nothing is loose! And they were right. Nothing was loose lol. So I have very little trust for any store other than the family owned independent one we use here. Even when we move states eventually I will probably keep working with them because they earned my trust. They may not have perfect PS approved prongs but what they made me have been little tanks!

I think this is one of their favorite ploys. I was in a different shop than my usual, asking about custom work, talking to both the owner and the associate. The SA said, "one of the prongs on your diamond is loose" and I too was horrified! I said "Really? Can I use your loupe??" Then *she* was horrified. Haha. Of course it wasn't loose. It was lovely hearing her backpedal. I won't go back. I don't like that kind of stuff.

Yeah me either. In my case she asked me who my jeweller was and when I gave her the shop name, fully intending to go to my store and have them look no matter what she also kind of backpedaled and told me to take it back to them to fix. I think she could see from my face they were not getting to touch anything no matter what she said. We were actually only there to find my husband a wedding ring lol.
