So I'm staying out of this job hunt thing. He's found something that suits his skills and his strengths and he seems to be happy with the prospect of it.

He's got two offers for jobs, and a third strong one on the horizon.

All the jobs are in sales and a mix of base commision and salary.

They will all require him to work some if not all weekend. But I'm used to all of this as he was a real estate agent before the market tanked and we moved to CA.

So... first of all, I've been praying and hoping and just generally focusing on his getting into a good company with a lot of oppportunity for advancement, and where he feels confident and content.

All the companies he's got offers from are good.

One has a much higher base salary. Less of a commision potential. And the location he would be at initially doesn't get a ton of traffic. He would be one of two sales associates there. He would have some weekends off.

The second has a lower base salary, but a much higher commision potential, and he would be the ONLY sales person, and its a location that gets a ton of traffic. He would have NO weekends off at all.

At the second, his potential earnings are higher as it more sales he makes the greater his commision (if he sells 1 widget he gets .5 percent if he sells 10 he gets 2% and each of these are about 25K), and as I said the place gets a lot of traffic. THe first place keeps the commision the same no matter if he sells 1 widget or 100 in a month.

The first place has a dependable base income though.

Which would you choose?

And if you have any left over... can you spare us some dust. He's been unhappy at his current job, and this would be a good switch for him and with the wedding... the increased salary from either of these positions would be a huge help.

I am sticking with both you and LegacyGirl; I want to stay out of it and I want John to be happy :-). I will be hoping that he picks the job where he will be happier. All the best of luck to both of you, Gypsy!

Hugs,
Deb

Best wishes to John on the job decision, and to you both on the upcoming wedding.

Personally, I would go for the shortest commute!

While I like the security of more salary, I wouldn''t let that be the determining factor. More important would be John''s job satisfaction. At which place did he feel more comfortable? Which is the better *fit*?

Whatever he chooses, I wish him all the best, and am sending tons and tons of PS fairy dust his way. I''m sorry I lack the skill with dust that Lorelei has so amply provided

I think Isabel is absolutely right - its really important to consider the whole picture of job satisfaction, which is so multi-faceted and so individual - there are some people who are fine working on weekends and others who hate it, for example. I''ll definitely send dust that whatever job John ends up with is the right fit for him and for the two of you

Sending dust your way :)

Ditto to the whole package...hours, commision, salary, distance, boss, etc. Good luck, John!!!

Legacy, Thank you honey. I hope he does too!

Thank you Kaleigh!

AGBF- I agree. I''ll stay out of it too. I gave him your advice. To pick the job that he thinks will make him happiest. Thank you for the luck!

Flygirl... The commute is a great point. If he takes the one with the lower salary and higher commision, we''d actually move closer to his work, as it''s right next to my job too!! Thank you for the best wishes!

Isaku-- I agree that his job satisfaction is the most important factor. And told him so... I''m glad for the tons of dust!! Thank you!

Thank you so much Amber!! I passed along the dust!!

Thank you Deelight!

And Thank you very much Diamond Seekerr! (Love the new AV!).
