Some figures have different meanings in different cultures, and I was wondering about the following.

We, in Europe, consider the figure 666 as a devilish figure. I wonder whether this is the same in the U.S., and also what the meaning is in Islamic cultures.

The reason, well, I just realized that I will be in Vegas in the beginning of June, probably flying back on the 6th of June. The date will thus be 06-06-06. Thinking about 9-11, that kind of frightens me, definitely taking off from that devilish city Las Vegas.

What do you think?

I do not believe in the supernatural, so 666 (which Americans have also heard supposedly signifies something evil) is just another number and 6/6/06 is just another day.

Deb :-)

I am not thinking about the super-natural.

If terrorists chose the date of September 11th, because of the number 9-11 (great brand-name for a terrorist event), what would you think of the brand-name 666 for the next huge terrorist attack?

Live long,

Ah! I am afraid that the terrorists do not confide in me and I find their thinking too bizarre to penetrate. But did the terrorists choose September 11 because of its being 911? Where did this theory come from?

What day of the week is that? Sounds right around when I should be coming back from my honeymoon!

The sign of the beast from the book of Revelations in the Bible is 666. That's where it comes from. The exact verse is Revelation 13:18.

The number can be assigned to so many things in everyday life. The date isn't any more significant than anything else.

I dont think anything has really been proven with Sept 11th really standing for 9-1-1, although I do think about it. Many involved were living here in the US, so you know they knew what those numbers meant to us.

I was surprised when husband asked me to call the phone company and change our new phone number because the ending was 2666. The thought had crossed my mind of 666=devil, but it didnt bother me enough to ask for another number.

MS - its a Tuesday. Last year on Sept. 11th, we were actually flying to a different island on our honeymoon... when we booked the flight with the travel agent we all kinda went silent taking note of what day it was...

Hopefully it''s not the sign of the devil! A dear friend of mine is finally pregnant at the age of 41 after 10 heartbreaking years of infertility. Her due date 6/6/06. I''m expecting that her baby will go with the odds and not be born on his/her due date.

PearCrazy: 6/6/06 is my husband's 40th birthday. Yes, he was born on 6/6/66 and he's absolutely fine (most of the time...). It does make for interesting conversation, though. Tell your friend not to worry

ETA: Sorry, but I have no thoughts about whether or not the date might be inspirational for terrorists. Like the others, I don't know whether there was truly a 9-1-1 connection on 9/11. I do wonder about when the next attack might occur, because sadly I fear one is inevitable. However, my personal goal is to just to go ahead and live life to the fullest and take care of the things I can control like eating right, exercising, wearing a seat belt and looking both ways before I cross the street...

I actually heard on the radio that several people are booking their weddings on 6/6/2006..even though it''s a Tuesday. Some couples are even making sure to get married at 6 minutes after 6. So, 6/6/2006 at 6:06pm or am....

weird.

I took an Understanding the Bible class in college, and my professor said that the number 666 may have actually been mistranslated and is actually 616. However, 666 is catchier and so it was readily perpetuated. Just goes to show you how different the results can be depending on the translator.

Well technically it''s 6606 not 666 so maybe it''s okay!

i''d go with this one..or 662006, either way i think you''ll be fine. A few years ago my employer changed the starting wage to $6.66/hour and my immediate boss had us pay our employee''s all $6.67/hour. What''s another penny per hour to be on the safe side

If you wanted to contemplate 'what if this, what if that' you'd never leave the house.

When it is 'your time' it won't matter where you are.

Don't waste your life! Live it!

I would agree with Mara, technically it is 6-06-06, so what in the heck (or hell, hee hee) is the big deal?
