I was chatting with my co-worker today and she mentioned that she had found the perfect "junior bride" dress for her daughters upcoming wedding. I thought at first she meant junior bridesmaid. She went on to show me the dress on the website and I commented that it was white and thought it was a faux pas for someone other than the bride to dress in all white. She corrected me and said this was indeed for the junior bride.
I asked if it was a local thing and she said no. Upon further inquiry she said the junior bride was someone close to the bride who is meant to be like a miniature version of the bride. I felt bad pressing her again, because I frankly didn't understand so I just complimented the dress and we continued chatting about the other wedding plans.

Has anyone encountered this before? Has someone on the board had a junior bride? What is the origin of this custom?

Not that anyone I know has had one but I have "heard" of them... mostly just on wedding websites when they talk about possible members to include in the bridal party. From what I can tell, it is different than a "Junior Bridesmaid" as (like your coworker said) they wear a mini version of the brides dress and a veil. To me, it's a more "dressed-up" flower girl.
Not exactly my cup of tea but.... whatever floats their boat, I guess.
I'm not sure if it's more prevalent in any one culture.

I think its really weird, but I read that sometimes people who are bringing a child into the marriage have the child be their junior bride or groom.

Regardless, I think its REALLY creepy. Why would I want someone to dress up like a miniature version of me? Creeptastic.

Never heard of this, and find it kind of weird. I've heard of and seen flower girls wearing at miniature version of the bride's dress, but never a veil!

I'd never heard of this until 2 days ago while filling out the blanks for my ceremony program and that was a blank. I think it is very odd and have never heard of such thing! Perhaps it is a regional custom? Here in the midwest, I've never seen one!

My flower girl (not a "junior bride") is wearing a miniature version of my dress and it isn't even slightly creepy!
She is also 5, not 15 or whatever, so she can only, realisticly, slightly even sort of look like a bride .

She is so excited to wear this dress and she looks adorable in it!

Here is the dress:
