HI everyone. I am new to the forum, and so glad I found it. You are all very helpful to people! Here''s my question. My boyfriend (I guess soon to be fiance?) have just started looking at engagement rings. I know the basics - the four Cs and so forth - but there''s so much conflicting info out there. We looked at diamonds online, and there are some good deals, but a jeweler we trust told us that online diamond brokers don''t even have the stones they advertise. If someone orders a stone, they just order it from a diamond broker.
This jeweler has a ring that I just love, but I don''t know if the ring is reasonably priced or not. Here is a picture of it (without any links, or the name of the store or anything) and the info and price. I don''t know yet what size diamond we would put in, because we''re still not sure what we can afford. I would love some suggestions as to stone shape you think would look best, too. (A radiant cut is my favorite.) Thanks to everyone in advance. This is a wonderful site! The price of the ring is $1995. It''s called a Euro Shank and it''s 14karat white gold.

HI everyone. I am new to the forum, and so glad I found it. You are all very helpful to people! Here's my question. My boyfriend (I guess soon to be fiance?) have just started looking at engagement rings. I know the basics - the four Cs and so forth - but there's so much conflicting info out there. We looked at diamonds online, and there are some good deals, but a jeweler we trust told us that online diamond brokers don't even have the stones they advertise. Welcome.

That is not true concerning some vendors not having the diamonds they advertise, in some cases the vendors have inventory diamonds which they can access immediately, and also they can call in any of the diamonds on the ' virtual' listings. This method works in enabling the online vendors to have access to millions of dollars worth of diamonds which they could not afford to do otherwise. Some of the vendors can call a diamond in which is on the virtual listing for evaluation, there may be a shipping fee for this, check with the vendor you are working with in each case as to how much.

As to the setting, it is very unusual, I think a radiant would look good also.

Hi JessieBenK, welcome! I think your ring really is very unusual and stylish. I agree a radiant would look good in it. You asked whether we think this setting is reasonably priced -- generally, I think the price sounds reasonable, but I can''t tell, is that diamond melée on the side of the shank, or is that millegrain/engraving?

Without knowing the true weight of the gold in grams, the quality of the workmanship, the quality of the side diamonds in the band, it's really difficult to judge if a price is reasonable or not, unless it's a vendor that we're all familiar with like Whiteflash. Is there also a reason you're paying so much for 14K? For that price, I would expect 18K or Platinum. Other than that, it is a very unique setting, and has a modern appeal.

Thank you for the information about online diamonds. That''s exactly the kind of thing that is so hard to find out. I think the reason this jeweler told us that, is because he is a diamond broker and has a large inventory of loose stones in his store. It''s nice to have additional information.

Thank you. It''s still my favorite by far. And those are diamonds all the way around. But I don''t have any info re carat weight.

HI and thank you. That''s why I asked...I don''t know if it''s a high price or not. I''m OK with white gold, the design is more important to me than having platinum. I appreciate your input and I will ask the jeweler the same question. Thank you!
