Being something of an old fashioned guy, I went out and picked the ring out myself. I hope I haven''t made a mistake, but I think she''ll like it. Would appreciate your thoughts, encouragement, etc.

Its very beautiful. I am sure she will love it. Will you come back and show us handshots later?

Thats a really pretty ring - is the metal 2 tone or is that just the lighting?
Either way you did good - do you have the specs of the centre?

I like the setting, very nice job.

I think you did well, it''s very pretty. How could she not love it??

Thanks for all the kind comments. I''ve been lurking on this site for a while, but just joined officially so I could post my pics yesterday. As I took the pics, I finally understood exactly what everyone has been talking about - it is very hard to take good pictures up close of a ring. It''s a tiny thing that the camera can''t focus on, and the main attraction is clear and shiny, so the flash gets completely confused!

Anyway, the metal is not two-tone, but I can see what you mean. It''s all platinum, with a 2.02ct center stone and several smaller ones along the split shank.

I''ll definitely be back with more pics once it''s on her hand (crossing fingers!).

I like how the split shank from the top looks like it runs underneath the stone. The diamond itself looks huge from the top, but the side view makes it look massive (possibly due to the high, cathedral-like setting). But I do appreciate the restraint in choosing a split shank as the ONLY extra detail -- the lack of a halo, side stones, surprise diamonds, pave on the prongs, etc., makes for a tasteful, large solitaire! Can't wait to see the hand shots -- soon?

I think you did a fine job! I have a split shank ring as well and absolutely love it because you don''t see every other girl wearing them. I can''t imagine your GF feeling anything but joy when she sees this. Good luck with the proposal!

It''s STUNNING! Best of luck with the proposal!

It''s stunning, GREAT JOB! With an antique-like setting, split shank, 2 carat honker...she better marry you! Good luck!

I think you did a great job with this one! Who is the maker of the setting? The ring is beautiful!

The setting and stone work very well together and I think the engraving does add a special touch. I have always been drawn to split shank settings, so perhaps I am biased.

What a beauty!! I''m sure she will love it!

It''s absolutely gorgeous - classical, romantic and sumptuous. I''m sure she''ll be thrilled.
