Hi! I hope you ladies can help me. Everyone always sounds so knowledgeable on this site!!![:wink2:

Here is my situation. I got engaged on Thursday. yeah :-). I have rather big knuckles and skinny fingers so the ring is tight getting it on and off over my knuckle. Not being very knowledgeable in natural swelling, I tried to take my ring off after a night of drinking and right after I got home from the gym. Now I know this is prime swelling time. Instead of slowly and carefully prying it off, I tried to shove it and pull it straight off. It worked, but it was painful and caused my knuckle to swell. Not wanting to be without my ring I got it back on before it was too late. Needless to say, now I can''t get it off. What should I do? Because my fingers are skinny the ring fits fine (it spins less than usual :-) ). But I need to get it off to clean, workout, etc... This happened Saturday and it is still swollen (although not quite as much). I''ve soaked my hand in ice water for ten minutes on numerous occassions to try to reduce the swelling. By the way, does ice water hurt diamonds??? Any advice? I also don''t want to get t off and then not be able to get it back on!!! How long does swelling on an injured knuckle usually last? I am worried I will hurt the diamond by having it on 24/7!

Also, weird question, but could wearing the ring be hurting the healing? It doesn''t feel heavy but it is a bigger diamond (4 cts) so maybe my hand isn''t used to it and could be putting pressure on the injury? I don''t know. I want to tak the best care of it I can and this is so frusturating!!! Thanks so much in advance for any help!

I just saw your diamond was 4 carats...is there a thread we can check that big ''ol honker out at???

My fingers swell a lot, too, and I do have large knuckles on fairly skinny fingers, as well. I find that avoiding salt is very helpful, and drinking lots of water helps, too. I think DKS had some recommendations on here awhile back that had some great tips for this type of thing...

And no, ice water cannot hurt a diamond, though your *ice* might actually make the ice in the water jealous!

That dental floss trick is definitely one worth remembering!

I think that there are enough suggestions in the thread that Harleigh referenced to help you in terms of your immediate situation. For the long term, making sure that you are drinking enough water and having a cup or two of coffee will help to ensure that you don''t retain water, provided that you''re not eating lots of sodium. My ring fits about a half size differently depending on the temperature and on whether or not I happen to be retaining water.

Good luck!

I have the exact same problem with my rings. My fingers are skinner than my knuckles and I have lots of trouble getting them on and off. I usually need to use water or windex to help me (how sad is that). If I get them any bigger, they''ll be spinning all the time (I hate that). At least now, they don''t spin too much. When I first got engaged, I had sizing beads put on the inside - they worked like a charm and my ring was always facing up. However, when I would try to take my ring off, the beads were extremely painful so, I had to have them removed. I have yet to find a solution to our problem...
