I was married in July 05. We worked a deal with the photographer and he shot digital then gave us DVDs with all the pictures & rights to them. With help from friends (and some on this board) I was able to convert the very large files (each picture was 24" X 36" on the DVDs) to a level that was more manageable. Then I uploaded all 800+ pictures to Snapfish.com. The first thing I did is print a proof set off all my pictures on snapfish.com--It was less thatn $100 to get a copy of everyone of the pictures. Then, I put them in regular plastic sleeve photo albums so we had a proof copy of each.

But the real fun was doing one of Snapfish''s memory books for our wedding album. The memory books are printed & bound just like a regular book from Barnes & Noble. I used about 300 of my pictures (there were lots of dups on the original 800--same pose--just multiples taken to get everyone''s eyes open etc.) You can pick a layout for each page & choose whether to have captions or not. I chose a black leather cover. I ordered the book in late November and just got them over the weekend.

All I can say is WOW! The book looks awesome. I was really impressed with the resolution & reproduction of the photos. The glossy pages really look professional. I really like my wedding album done this way rather than the more traditional printed pictures stuck in leather album. Best of all we printed multiple copies (at 25% off) so we can give one to our parents. I had 124 double sided pages in my book and the total cost for the first book was just over $120. There are always coupons for snapfish too.

Just had to mention this because I was really impressed with the books and it is a great option for those who are negotiating with photographers now.

Wow, that sounds so great! THanks for posting it! This could be perfect for us b/c we have a very budget-friendly photographer but since his style is not as photojournalist as I''d like, two of our friends are going to fill in with their photos (they are amateurs but really talented). This could be a great way for us to incorporate all of the pictures into one album.

That sounds wonderful! I''ve been considering doing something like this for my wedding photos too. How do you think the photo quality of the pics in your bound book compares w/ actual glossy photos? Do you think your book will be durable over time?

selflove--that''s exactly what I did. I included photos from a variety of people so I had more than just the photographers. We included our rehearsal dinner which was not done by the professional photographer at all. Also, you can crop & edit pictures on the snapfish website, although I used the editing software from my Nikon camera because it had more options and was easier to use.

Brightspot--the photos in the book are actually better than the prints. I think they will hold up better than regular photos over time since they are printed using regular 5 color printing process rather than a photography style print on photo paper. The only thing I could see not holding up is the cover picture. It is a large picture set in an indentation on the front cover. I think it is a self-stick, so the corners of it might come up. I''m going to make a cover for my book for when it''s on the shelf to protect the cover just in case.

The hardest part was sorting through all the pictures. Loading up 800+ pictures is definitely a project for high-speed internet access.

Thanks, IslandDreams. Your album sounds amazing & that''s great that you could include so many photos, including the rehearsal dinner photos. Also good news that the quality of the prints is better than your proofs! I wish I could see your book...

You''re right about this being a project for high-speed internet service...
