No particular reason for the post. I don't generally like antique jewelry pieces, but for some reason this one really speaks to me.

Do you think its a good value? (I really have no idea, so I'm asking to learn.)

It speaks to you because it's unique and beautiful! I especially like how the round diamonds look like half moons from above. As for value, I can't speak to that.

Hah, thats funny cuz I thought it was a typo and they really were half moons! I very much like the setting and its lovely with a blue sapphire. My concern is that the sapphire looks to be pretty dark - a little bit in the pic you posted, but if you look at their others, you see that even with lots of light shining, its still dark. Also, I didn't see anything that addressed the treatment level, if any, the sapphire has had. As a result, I would assume the sapphire has been treated and therefore think the ring is overpriced as is.

The whole ring presentation is very pretty but I agree w/Minou. First impression was that it's dark. Lotta money for a sapphire that may have been treated. I'd want lab confirmation that it hasn't before I forked over that much.

I like the ring and setting BUT look at the light flooding the sapphire. IRL this will be a very dark stone.

Same here; love the setting but the sapphire will look much darker in person. Too dark for most people and definitely not an ideal tone.

I think what I really like about that picture is the photograph itself; there is something - probably the depth of field - that draws my eye in (that, and of course, those great claw prongs :cheeky:)

I bet DanielM could replicate that for you (very similar at least). I too thought that the stone was too dark with this one. It's easier to see in the handshot.

Yes, looking more closely at the other photos I can see the sapphire is really dark, almost black and so it really isn't a good value. LD, minou, JewelFreak and Chrono are right as usual!

On further reflection I think it is really a better of example of how lighting / good photography really can change the look of the stone.

That said, I do still really like the setting, and was very excited that athena thought DanielM might be able to make something very similar. I see a lot of lovely oval stones but haven't wanted to purchase them because I had no idea how I might want to set them.

Good outcome and you're right - a good example of the effects lighting can have. You'll be in good hands with Daniel M.

Sapphire can always touch my heart without any reasons, perhaps it is of the same color like a sea to bring me peaceful mind!!Perhaps the deep blue is suitable for those who are of shallow complexion, love it anyway!
