Yesterday I found out another one of my girlfriends got engaged on her birthday Tuesday. She called to share her story so of course the very first thing I did before heading home was stop off at a store and pick up an engagement card for her. After SO and I finished dinner I said, “Oh, B is officially engaged as of yesterday so I stopped off and grabbed a card to mail out tomorrow, do you want to sign it?” Of course he said yes so I wrote a little message in the card about how happy we were to hear her big news and wishing her all the best. The card was signed, sealed and ready to go into the mail.
After I gave my SO his goodnight kiss and turned out the lights, he was like “babe, I have to tell you, I know that you are upset we aren’t engaged. I know it’s bothering you and every time one of your friends announces their engagement, I know that deep down inside you are thinking, “why not me”. But, what blows me away about you and makes me realize the woman I truly have is how gracious you are to those friends who have gotten engaged. The fact that you went out of your way to get B a card and to write such a kind note speaks volumes abut your character. I just want you to know that these things have not gone unnoticed and you really are selfless with a very solid heart. I am very lucky to have you."
Thank goodness it was dark in the room because I had tears streaming down my face. What my man said to me moved me so deeply I could barely keep myself together. I fell asleep feeling like the luckiest girl in the world.
I learned that some men really do pay attention to how you react to and treat your friends when they announce their engagements while you are waiting for yours.
