Hi everyone!

I've been on here for the past few months trying to learn as much as I can as it's getting close to when the that certain time is coming!

I've been working with a very helpful jeweler that is outside my local area to find something around 1.2cts in the near colorless range. He found this one which is a 1.21, H, SI1. The price is $9849. There is a small inclusion at the top left which he says is not visible to the eye at all and had 3 other jewlers say they could not see it.

I just want to know if the price sounds about right, is too high, etc? Or what some thoughts are on the inclusion.

Thanks in advance!!

we need far more info... does it come with a gia cert? what are the specs? Don't commit until you get these very important pieces of info and post here.

Ok thanks! I'll ask for those and post when I get them.

Here are 4 options that, regardless of the cut of the originally linked stone, are of a better value:

You can save about $1,000 (by wire) and get this stone (same size, color, clarity), which is guaranteed to be a top-notch cut:
1.22ct, H, SI1
http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/11808/

This one is about $1,500 less (after Pricescope discount) with same color, size, clarity (plus bonus of fluorescence):
1.234ct, H, SI1
http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/1.234-h-si1-round-diamond-ags-bl-104071029030

Roughly the same size, same color, same clarity with one of the best possible cuts (Crafted by Infinity) for less money:
1.14ct, H, SI1
http://www.highperformancediamonds.com/index.php?page=view-id-diamond-infinity-new&id=798

This one is the same price as the original stone, but better color and clarity (essentially same size):
1.117ct, G, VS2

Thanks guys those are some great looking diamonds. I have not seen it in person and unfortunately won't be able to.

The store is about 2 hours away from where I live and I can't get to it without my perspective fiancé knowing before I want to propose. We went in to the store back in February and I remember that setting because it was one of the best looking halos I have seen. It's very simple and doesn't have too much ornate detail which is what she likes.

I'm hoping between the report, images, and some opinions I'll be able to get a great looking ring!

The price I've always thought was a little on the higher side but I'm hoping to negotiate a little when it comes down to the final details.

Hi Jguy and welcome!

Stive is absolutely right, if you could link to the GIA report or post all the info on it here please, that would be an immense help, plus any other images should you have them.

Ty and Rocky have posted some super selections as usual that you could consider. But if you prefer to stick with the seller you allude to, if you could post the above info, we can go from there.

The proportions on paper work but I'm worried about the steep pavilion if there's some variance in the cutting. You get into color entrapment issues at 41.4 degrees. It's likely that some of the pavilion facets hit this mark because Gia averages everything.
Is it possible to get an idealscope image?

One thing to note is that it will have lots of white light return and not as much fire as other diamonds.

I think you can also get a better deal than what you're paying. See James Allen or ritani for comparisons--they have the best prices right now for this size, and you can check those diamonds for yourself to see if they're eye clean. For reference I just bought a eye clean 1.23 h si2 for 6700 from JA. You can probably get a comparable 1.2 ct h si1 for around 7500-8000.

Thanks for posting the report Jguy! Basically what Teo said, this diamond could be perfectly fine and perform very well indeed, or due to overall cut precision, if the pavilion is swinging deeper than it's average of 41.2, undesirable effects such as colour entrapment and light leakage might come into play, but these are just potential flags, an Idealscope image is what's needed in order to evaluate the overall cut quality and optical performance of this diamond. It might look a tad brighter than some others with the slightly shallower pavilion angle, but 33 deg isn't really shallow at all in the scheme of things, just very slightly shallower compared to the crowns of the superideals we routinely see here. Price, you will pay more from a brick and mortar store, but it depends on your comfort level and whether you are ok with that, it could be a very nice stone but without images, we are speculating really. Definitely worth shortlisting for possible purchase pending further evaluation if you prefer to buy from a b&m store.
