I just thought this was kind of funny/cute coming from my BF. Recently we were at a hotel and saw a bunch of high schoolers very dressed up. Turns out they were part of a very big, fancy quincanera (sp?). I''m not sure what the etiquette is for these events, but the guest of honor had several of her friends in very high-end looking bridesmaid-style dresses - I''m guessing some sort of honor attendants. Several of the boys were wearing tuxes also.
Anyhow, we talked about how expensive this party must have been, and my boyfriend commented that at least all those kids got to rent their clothes. I told him that no, actually while most guys rent tuxes for this kind of thing, I have never heard of girls renting their dresses. It would be next to impossible to get that many girls of different sizes into matching rented dresses! If you even can rent that sort of thing.
He was horrified that all those girls actually had to pay for their own clothes. I guess he didn''t really go to proms or anything as a kid, and has never been in a wedding really so he thought all clothes except bridal gowns were rented. He was even more aghast when I told him about alterations, hairdressing fees, makeup, shoes, jewelry, manicures, etc. that a lot of girls and women buy for this kind of event.
Hopefully this little educational session will make him think twice about the huge wedding party that I believe he is secretly wishing for! I don''t think his frugal heart could handle it now that he knows how much it costs for each woman to get pretty. He thought that those girls just threw on a rented dress, slapped on some lipstick, and ran out the door!
