My bf and I went to Tiffany yesterday to pick up a birthday gift for a friend, and I wanted to look at the jewelry for fun. He graciously let me run wild in the showroom, allowing himself to be dragged from one display to another without complaining.

Well, he spotted this really cute platinum and diamond ring, with four diamonds forming the shape of a clover. The ctw was less than .50, and they were asking over one thousand dollars for it. We didn't know how much it cost, and he suggested I try it on (it was really cute!). The saleslady pulled it out of the display, and I asked to borrow a loupe, because, you know, it's a lot of fun to look at diamonds underneath those, regardless of the size of the stones.

My bf said, "why bother? The stones are too small to see anything anyway." Of course I said, "but it's always fun." And the saleslady said, "Well, she THINKS she can see something," in a rude, attitude, you're a dumb-young-person-who's-wasting-my-time kind of way.

So....of course, I said that I don't like the ring, and ask to see ten other things afterwards, although at we had no intention of buying.

Maybe it was a bit mean, but snobby salespeople irritate the living crap out of me.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!!!!!
:)
who cares if it was rude (okay.. i''m a bit biased because something similar happened to me, where i went to a jewelry store that i bring a LOT of customers in for them, and i was helping a friend so before bringing him, i wanted to make it simple and have the 3 or 4 selections for when i brought him in)
she was pretty much exactly the same way the sales lady that served you was.
i was so upset. i asked for the numbers of the ring, and went to the similar store and brought my friend there instead.

haha.
to say the lease, making them do work (the ackwardness of getting in/out of a showcase) makes me happy that you did!
(ps. i''m young as well, but that just means i have less debt/expenses, and more for diamonds and fun! GEEZ!) ;) aha

Good for you. People like that drive me nuts. I'm glad you took up her time serves her right for being so high and mighty. The attitudes drive me insano!!!

Ugh, last time I went in the Beverly Hills store, the saleswoman was totally uninterested in helping me.

But once in a while, you'll find a really good rep... One of the last times I was there, a very sweet saleswoman brought out multiple blue and pink diamond rings for me to play with - and we had a great time. She was happy to have someone who loved the colored diamonds as much as she. And I let her know that a $300,000 blue diamond was out of my price range. ;-)

Harry Winston is MUCH more fun for playing! And if anyone is ever in LA, check out their gorgeous new store.

Hehe, good for you! I hate snobby salespeople, and I''ve met a few. Fortunately, I''ve met a few nice ones too.

A lot of salespeople don''t realize that they are there for the customers'' convenience, not the other way around. I wonder what they''ll do for a living after they''ve driven all the potential customers away and the B & M stores have to close.

Cartier offered to let me sample their perfumes this morning.

::giggle::

Those poor salespeople tried SO HARD to get away...

Good for you!!!

I''ve been in Tiffanys in several locations (NYC, Westchester, VA near DC) and have almost never been acknowledged. My FI and I could stand right next to a case for ten minutes and no one would offer to help us. And we certainly don''t look like slobs, etc. In the store in VA, I FINALLY was given a little attention and actually was able to try on a ring LOL. It only took like a dozen visits to finally get to try something on

SanDiegoLady -- I agree with you 100%!

Many PS Vendors have incredible diamonds! And, I''d rather support an independent retailer over a huge company, any day.

But Tiffanys is fun for getting ideas, and looking at sparklies.

Hmm, I never have trouble at tiffany''s getting attention and help. The last time the woman was happy to show me a selection of 1/3 carat diamond rings, so it''s not the price I''m looking at. Maybe I''m just going to the really slow stores?
It''s certainly not how I dress... although I have noticed an overall perking up of sales people when I have my ''good'' purse. (coach not target).

I do think you get better attention if you have a shopping bag or two. Shows that you''re in a spending mood.

what ticks me off about Tiff''s is how much MORE attention I get when DB or my mother is with me. He''s a man and she looks ''expensive'' but apparently 20-something women *never* spend money on jewlery.

OTOH, when they have helped me they have been very sweet. I want to buy something from them that is a "design" one day that I can''t get other places (like those Legacy earrings that are so out of my price range, or some of Paloma Picasso''s stuff)
