So, I''ve fallen out of love with my Rivini. I wish I''d stuck with my original desire for an organza or organdy gown with alencon lace.

So I thought that I could go to a very high end fabric emporium in SF and buy some alencon lace about 12 inches wide, and use it to cover the platium ribbons on my bodice. Then add a ribbon from the satin of the gown around my waist. I would need a good seamstress for this. And it might cost as much as a new gown anyway.

Since I bought it at as a sample so the button have to be repaired anyway. So I also thought to have the hem taken up a little (for material for the botton loops) and have a little lace added to the hem (either under the hem showing out from under the hem) or just at the outside of the hem.

Am I crazy? Should I just sell this gown and buy a new one? I don''t know how much I can get for it, it does need some repair as it was a sample.

What do you think?

Gypsy, lots of girls have fallen out of love with them in their dresses. Are you sure you don''t like you in your dress. Please post some pictures of us so we can give you better advice.

I don''t have any pics of me in it.

Also, the dress looks a little different on me, the neckline doesn''t dip like that... so I would want that exagerated as well.

I''m talking about adding lace to the the area from the dropped waist to just under the bust.

Back (which I still love). I love elements of the gown very much. And like the dress, as its lovely. But I want something less minimalist and more romantic.

This is kinda the look I want... but the rivini has the most amazing satin so it would look much richer than this one, and the lace would be larger at the waist.

First off, that is a lovely dress.

I agree with you, a lace overlay over the platinum ribbons would look really nice. My advice to you would be to get some quotes for how much the changes would cost, then see if it would be more convenient/affordable to get the "ideal" dress.

gypsy, i think the rivini is beautiful just the way it is! but if you don't think you want to wear it - i'd be happy to take it off your hands

- don't know if yours is in my budget or my size but just a thought.

maybe you should give yourself a couple of weeks to think on it? maybe you'll feel differently, no? although i think you made a great choice.

ETA : i agree with qtn about getting some estimates on getting the lace added

ETAA : i gotta go to sleep ladies - hope you guys get some shuteye soon :)

The dress is a size twelve, and I think it''s pretty true to a street clothes 12. It''s LOVELY high end fabric, and I don''t think I could get as nice a quality gown in terms of fabric if I sold it and went new. It''s just not in budget.

I do have the name of a decent (reportedly) seamstress in San Jose, I was thinking of calling her up for an apointment and taking the dress in for her to see. I''d need it bustled either way...

Here is another gown the the style I like. This would be a top contender if I went with a new gown.

Here''s another...

If you are price sensitive, get quotes for the alterations and then work from there. I have to tell you, I really do like your dress and the fabric is amazing. I think you are just second guessing yourself.

There are countless people on PS who have felt like maybe they made the wrong choice and realize that they were just getting cold feet.

Get your quote and ger some shut eye. I know I need to log off, but I can''t help it. This site is dangerous

Gypsy, when I read your question I was thinking "what a hassle! just get a new dress!!" But then I saw your dress. How gorgeous! I think it would look lovely with lace! And you would get to keep the gorgeous fabric and gorgeous train. Quick question to make sure I am understanding, would the lace replace the "middle" ribbons and span between the outer two? Would you keep them? And then a ribbon in the middle of the lace? Sorry I am a little slow, but I love the concept!

Honestly, I would just stick with the dress you have because it''s beautiful. My grandmother was a seamstress and I saw her do amazing things with several dresses. If there are elements that you love about the dress (e.g. the back of it), it might be really hard to find exactly what you want in another dress.

gypsy, the second one is gorgeous too. i don't think you can go wrong with either but yes, would be best to take your dress #2 pictures and your current dress to a really good seamstress and see what they say. i don't know where you live but are there any theaters close by - maybe you could get some recommendations on a great seamstress from someone who works in the costume department? i think you are right to be very picky about who lays a scissor on the dress.

ETA : i have to agree with qtn that if you post pics of you in the dress we might be able to get a better idea of how the dress looks on you and perhaps give you better advice. best would be seeing you in both dresses. but really - they are both great and you can't really go wrong with either.

btw - if you don't mind me asking, who is the designer of the 2nd dress?

Gypsy, I love your dress the way it is, but I think getting an idea of the cost to add lace is a good one.

Could the hesitation about your dress be because "the newness" has worn off? I remember that you were thrilled when you bought it, but there have been a few changes in your life (and maybe in you too) which have changed your mind about it?

Just a thought...

Could you maybe keep the dress as-is and do a more romantic type long veil? I don''t know if that might satisfy your itch.

Hi Gypsy!

I really like your Rivini, but IMO, you should wear the dress you LOVE on your wedding day. You''ll only get married once, so do it the way you want to!!!
I say sell the dress, and then buy yourself the dress of your dreams. It will be so worth it!!!

Paloma Blanca is the designer of both the other gowns I posted ringster.

Isaku, part of the problems is DEFINITELY that the newness has worn off. I bought it in 2006 and it''s been hanging in my grandparent''s house since. Plus I''ve gained a size, and it no longer fits me. Though I am DEFINITELY NOT going to be a size 14 at my wedding, so I will fit into it again.

That''s also why there are no pics of me in it, I''ve gained weight and it just doesn''t fit right now.

I will get qoutes cause there are still a lot of things I love about this gown.

Yes, if it''s possible, I would have the platinum ribbons removed and right between where they are (from waist to under bust) I would replace with ribbon.

I have to say that I love your Rivini! I usually don't like Rivini designs, but I still remember when I first saw your dress and thought it looked amazing! I think it is elegant and perfect! Now, that said :), I also know what it's like to not love your dress, so I'd never try to talk someone into a dress they didn't love. What would you think about have lace added stitched to the inside to peek out of both the bodice and the hemline? That would be much less expensive and would add a touch of romance. I wish I had the photoshop skills to show you what I am thinking...

I think I know what you mean Facet. Like the ruffles on your (AMAZINGLY FABULOUS) gown. At the top and at the bottom.

Me too! I think it''s absolutely gorgeous. It''s something that I could see myself wearing if there was an engagement that could be seen in our near future. I love the simplicity of it. I think you should try the lace peeking out the top and bottom. Even just buying some cheap white lace and tucking it in or pinning it in place, just to see what it looks like, before doing anything permanent might be a good idea.
