With the Verizon-MCI buyout complete my husband is to be an "official verizon employee" sometime this week...Day Zero is sometime this week....and because of this...he might no longer be an employee of anyone. We are SCARED TO DEATH and Im enjoying my few days of new-purse-insanity because if he loses that job, it''s going back. We thought he would be in the clear but there are really looming rumors floating now and the last one he heard was the most reliable source in the company. So he''s panicking. He hasn''t slept all week, he barely eats...he''s mopey and (kind of annoying) bitter about it almost. He has made it through 33 layoffs in the last few years. We expected his luck to run out by now, but luckily he''s still be safe...this one might be the real bummer though. 15K people between the two companies. That''s a lot.

So...while he and I don''t believe in god or any of that...hope for the best. My rings won''t be hawked until we are starving. And frankly, both of us could use the lack of food ;)

By the way...I wore them half of yesterday...I only inspected them today since I laid around all day in bed and didn''t hardly make it to the ring box heh.

I wish you the best!! Hopefully he wont be cut.

My father was a pilot for Panam and when they went under he was on of the few to picked by United airways with the same pay and everything. Hope the best for you.

I know how many times you guys have been through this before. This must be gut wrentching to say the least. Fingers and toes are crossed. I am knocking on wood for good measure. And of course praying for a good outcome for Ryan. {{{{{ BIG HUGS }}}}} Lisa

Ame,

I''m so sorry that you are going through such a difficult time. I know how worried and upset you must be over everything. I am thinking of your husband and sending you the best of thoughts. I can''t even imagine the stress. HUGS. And please keep us updated.

Ally

Best wishes Ame! I hope that everything works out okay for your husband. There doesn''t seem to be any job security anymore.

Best wishes to you and your hubby. Try not to worry until(unless) there is something to worry about. Like my Mammaw always said"Child, Yer all tha time putting yer cart before yer horse". Plus, worry causes wrinkles

Sending good vibe to your husband. Fingers, arms, legs and toes crossed. I am not very good at crossing my eyes, but I will cross those too.

Good luck Ame and Ryan!

Best wishes to you and your hubby Ame. My own happy hubby works (worked) for AT&T (now SBC) in a completely redundant position. For some reason he''s just absolutely oblivious to the possibility of lay off, so I get to worry all by my self.

Seriously, I''m sure it will all work out for the best. And remember, if it does come to the reality of losing THIS job, there are more better bigger other jobs right around the corner!

good luck Ame. I''m wishing you the best. Let us know how it turns out. I know lately how difficult losing a job is (my in laws both got laid off last year) but I"m hoping your husband''s job is ok!! Plus I''m laid off myself at the moment (although going back in a couple of months). Long story, I work at a seasonal business...but am starting to think I should find a year round job where I don''t have to deal with this in the winter. I''ll keep my fingers crossed for you and hubby! Keep us posted.

Wishing you both all the best ~ I do know (from experience) that even if he loses that job, things have a way of working out ~ sometimes to your benefit. You can only live life one day at a time ~ if you get any further ahead than that you''ll go crazy. Just know that for today, right now he has a job. When things are really out of whack for me, I sincerely try to count all of my blessings rather than focus on my lack. It does help.

Good wishes and thoughts to you both ~ hang in there!

Ame,

I sure whatever happens you guys will pull through and be all the better for it. I''ve seen many times when friends have been laid off from one company they end up getting a better job, better pay, benefits, etc. with another one. But, I will send prayers your way that Ryan can keep the job he''s got..

sorry to hear about hubby''s situation....glad to hear you''re wearing rings!

peace, movie zombie

Oh man...so my husband and his coworkers just got an email telling them to be sure all of their orders are updated and current and as completed as possible by close of business tomorrow.

That is not a promising note.

Oh ame, hang in there!!

So sorry to read this. But there will be brighter days.

Reminds me of the oil industry - boom to bust. Thank goodness we got out after years of wondering if we would survive the cuts.

Keep us posted. Hugs.

Ame - any update???

So sad to hear about this, one of my friends recently got laid off, it''s such a difficult time when that happens. Hopefully everything will be fine and your luck will continue... my fingers are crossed!

Really not enough to say...They sent out the email today saying they were officially one company and any staffing decisions will be made and executed within the next 60 days. So that''s all they heard. His boss said his boss made it sound like he thought he was safe but there have been some major surprises thus far so we aren''t sure...his boss did say that they are dragging it out longer which he feels is good because at least they get another check. ;)

I wish there was more. Im freaking out.

He did just tell me about how he might have gotten a huge part of the sales dept fired. They were padding their orders to make it look like the sold more, when in reality they were either making up new orders or renaming "upgrades" and account changes to be new orders...Ryan and one of his coworkers saw a huge swath of orders that were labeled as new but had tracking to old accounts and caught this and brought it to the attention of their boss...who called the vp in charge of the team...and he about fell over dead. Whatever they did was so huge a nono that they won''t be there past monday morning pretty surely. They were so desperate to show they were people who deserved to be kept on after this merger that they really cooked their books and somehow their boss had no idea till he went through this papertrail. I hope that Ryan and his coworker don''t get in trouble for uncovering it...somehow I think his boss would do whatever he could to protect this team though. He really looks out for them.

I can''t imagine how stressed out you guys must be, ame! I''m keeping my fingers crossed for you too!
